Senior Program Manager, Community Relations –
Staff Community Engagement and Social Services
Position Overview:
A major focus of Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life’s national corporate citizenship policies
and programs is staff and advisor engagement within our communities. This is a new senior position on
the Community Relations team in Winnipeg, responsible for developing and overseeing policies and
programs for community engagement, workplace fundraising and related internal/external messaging for
our Canadian operations. As the expert resource, the incumbent is the Team Lead, developing
strategies, coaching, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on related activities, and overseeing the
organization’s Staff Club Program in its head office and major locations.
This Senior Program Manager is also responsible for Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life’s
community investments and relationships with United Way/Centraide and other Social Services
organizations across Canada, involving a budget of approximately $3 million annually.
The incumbent is responsible for building working relationships with the over 60 United Way/Centraide
chapters we support and for managing and overseeing the success of 6 concurrent annual workplace
fundraising campaigns across Canada, which raised over $1.4M across Canada in 2014. The incumbent
is the Project Manager for a cross-functional team responsible for implementing United Way@Work, the
specialized computer application for the online United Way campaign, and for providing leadership,
oversight and support for the organization’s volunteer-driven campaigns.
In addition to these primary functions, the incumbent manages the ongoing development of Community
Relations’ database, is responsible for developing reports, and ensures the integrity of specialized
applications for community investment, staff community engagement and the online United Way
campaign.
Together with the Community Relations team, the incumbent represents corporate and Community
Relations policies and practices, and advances the companies’ reputation for corporate citizenship and
social responsibility to both internal and external stakeholders.
Accountabilities:
This Senior Program Manager is responsible and accountable for:



Community Investment and Internal/External Stakeholder Relations – United Way and Social
Services Portfolio ($3 million annually)
Staff Community Engagement and Volunteer Policies, Programs and Messaging (Team Lead)
Systems Development, Management and Reporting
Qualifications and Competencies:










Post-secondary degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience with a
minimum of 7 years of experience applying the required skills in a large organization.
A high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, and excellent interpersonal skills to successfully
deal with executive and senior management, internal leaders and volunteers, and community
organizations.
Maturity and sound judgment; ability to anticipate situations, influence positive outcomes and
manage situations proactively and sensitively.
Proven knowledge and related experience in recruiting and managing volunteers from all levels of
the organization, leadership coaching, and workplace fundraising campaigns.
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
Strong skills in planning, analysis and reporting, to introduce and improve programs and policies
which further corporate citizenship and reputation, as well as business goals for staff
engagement.
Exceptional organizational and project management skills; ability to manage competing priorities
and heavy workload.
Aptitude and experience in working with databases and computer systems, including Excel,
accounting/budgeting principles and software, and specialized community investment, volunteer
and fundraising programs.
Sound understanding of the community sector and how it functions.
Working knowledge of French language is an asset.
