Sub: Guidelinesfor installation of SewageTreatment Plants (STps) in Hor pitals.
Installationof SewageTreatmentPlants (STPs) in hospitals is required to ac. ieve
the
prescribed standardsfor effluent discharge. In view of the above facts,
1rllowing
guidelinesare being issuedfor installationof STps in hospitals:
1. Ideally, STPs need to be installed by all the hospitals,however, in the beg nning,
it
will be mandatory for all the hospitals having bed capacity of more than j0 beds.
Connectivity with common STPs installed by local authorilieswill not be rccepted
and all the hospitalswill haveto install their own STps.
2. STPsinstalled in the hospitalsshall have state-of-arttechnologyto remove racesof
antibioticsand other drugs which are normally presentin hospital effluent ar d which
are not removedby ordinarytreatment.The existing STPsin the hospitalswi I also be
requiredto be upgradedto removetracesof antibioticsand other drugs.
3' A reasonabletime shall be grantedto all the hospitalsfor installation/tp gra ation of
STPs.However, time will be grantedonly after submissionof a time bour d action
plan along with Bank Guaranteeof I0% of the cost of the proposedSTp/up1radation
of STP.
4. The wastewatertreatedthoroughthe STPswill meet the prescribedstandardsandwill
be recycled back in central air conditioning or other secondaryuses like hospital
laundry, horticulture etc. No treatedor untreatedwastewaterwill be allow :d to be
dischargedoutsidethe hospitalpremises.
All the concernedare directedto ensurecomplianceof theseguidelines.
