Workshops
Workshop 1: The Real Secrets to Success in the Marketplace
Leader:
Suzanne Hamlin
Time:
2:00p - 2:50p
Rooms:
B, C and D
Description: A critical piece of the puzzle of how to launch and grow your business is to
understand how your new innovation may be adopted and the specific tactics to use to jumpstart
the adoption process. In this workshop we will discuss how people take on new innovative
products and services, where you should focus your efforts as you build your business, and the
skills you will need at each stage of the process. This workshop is for entrepreneurs in the “idea”
phase of a business startup, who have had some success with early adopters but are struggling to
grow sales. It is also relevant to anyone involved in managing the introduction of a new technology
or those responsible for implementing a major change in thinking or behavior.
Workshop leader Suzanne Hamlin (Owner, Transformative Knowledge Group) is a business
strategy and marketing consultant with a special interest in business transition and transformation.
Focusing on understanding marketing dynamics and organizations’ key competencies, she helps
clients create customized strategies for their individual success.
Workshop 2: Business Model Innovation
Leader:
Don Gooding
Time:
3:00p - 3:50p
Rooms:
B, C and D
Description: What exactly is business model innovation and how can it be used to create value
for your business in times of change? Learn how startup entrepreneurs as well as established
corporations use the Business Model Canvas to describe, design, challenge, invent, even pivot a
business model for a new company, new product rollout or even for a total business reinvention.
Experiment with this tool during the workshop with the guidance of trained facilitators and leave
with the beginnings of an individualized version for your own business.
Don Gooding, MCED Executive Director and Co Chair of the Maine Angels, teaches business
model innovation as part of MCED’s Top Gun Prep and Top Gun. Previously a telecommunications
market analyst, venture capitalist, and founder of a global specialty music business, Don is fully
committed to the mission of transforming Maine’s economy through entrepreneurship.

TechWalk 2014 Connect with an Expert Program
Entrepreneurs and companies often need advice from various experts in order to make their project
a success. TechWalk 2014 attendees can Connect with an Expert for pre-scheduled 15 minute
1-on-1 meetings to discuss key subjects. To register for a 1-on-1 meeting with an expert, select this
ticket on the registration site. You will then have the opportunity to choose the topic and time you
prefer from the list provided.
Note:
Each attendee may schedule up to three (3) meetings with experts, but may schedule only one
meeting for a specified subject. Attendees may not schedule back-to-back or multiple meetings
under the same subject. If you schedule a meeting, but will be unable to attend for any reason,
please notify MTI. Someone else may be waiting for that meeting time, and would appreciate your
contacting us. This is true for the time before TechWalk and the day of the event. Any specific
sessions not reserved for any topic prior to TechWalk will be available for interested parties to
reserve the day of TechWalk. We will notify you in case you inadvertently book meetings with
conflicting times. If you have any questions about the Connect with an Expert program, please
contact Scott Burnett at MTI via email at [email protected].
Below are the topics and organizations that will be included in the Connect with an Expert program.
