St. Mary’s Church is situated at the centre of the walled town of
Conwy. It was founded as a Cistercian monastery in 1186 and
for a hundred years was the burial place of the Princes of

Castle, it has been the Parish Church. It contains many features
of interest including a Tudor font and a magnificent rood
screen of c. 1500.
The other festival venue, St. Mary’s Church Hall, is a few

Holyhead line. We extend a warm invitation to you to join us at
the festival and experience the delights of wonderful music
performed in beautiful surroundings.
There are no set admission charges to festival concerts.
Audiences are invited to contribute to a collection at the end of

THE FESTIVAL LECTURE
‘Mendelssohn in North Wales?
Oh Yes!’
Dr. Goronwy
Wynne explores
aspects of
Mendelssohn’s
life, including his
visit to North
Wales. He
stayed at
Rhydymwyn
near Mold, where he composed
some of his best piano works, but
also visited many of the Principality’s
beauty spots. He was utterly fed up
with the sound of the harp in the inns
where he stayed, but did he
compose anything for the harp? We
shall see - and hear!
Bydd Dr. Goronwy Wynne yn
olrhain hanes bywyd Mendelssohn,
gan gynnwys ei ymweliad â Gogledd
Cymru. Bu’n aros yn Rhydymwyn ger
yr Wyddgrug, lle y cyfansoddodd rai
o’i weithiau gorau i’r piano, ond
ymwelodd hefyd â nifer o lefydd
eraill yn y wlad. Roedd wedi laru ar
sŵn y delyn yn y tafarnau, ond a
gyfansoddodd Mendelssohn ei hun
unrhyw beth i’r delyn? Cawn weld – a
chlywed!

be followed by Debussy’s last work,
the elusive Sonata for Violin in G

melodious and surprisingly littleknown sextet in Eb major.
