27 March 2015 ZELKOVA QUARTET HAYDN – Quartet Op. 64 No.5 “Lark” BRIDGE – Idylls MOZART – Quartet in E flat K.428 The Zelkova Quartet has Caroline Pether violin, Simran Singh violin, Rhiannon James viola and Jonathan Pether cello and was founded in 2010 at the Royal Northern College of Music under the guidance of Petr Prause, cellist of the Talich Quartet. The quartet are European Chamber Music Academy associates and have attended sessions in Paris, Vienna, Manchester and Oslo. They were also one of four quartets selected internationally to participate in the Trondheim International String Quartet Academy 2012 and attended the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme in September 2013. Competition successes include the RNCM Christopher Rowland Chamber Ensemble of the Year 2012 prize, where the quartet received both First prize and the Audience Prize. They were also awarded the RNCM John Barbirolli / Laurence Turner Memorial Prize for String Quartet in the same year and have won numerous other internal competitions. SOH-YON KIM, Violin MAKSIM STSURA, Piano BRAHMS - Sonata No.3 for Violin and Piano in D minor Op.108 RAVEL - Sonata for Violin and Piano in G major KREISLER - Viennese Rhapsodic Fantasietta Soh-Yon Kim was born in Seoul and started having violin lessons at the age of 4, studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal College of Music, where she was a winner of the RCM Concerto Competition and prizes in Astana, Buenos Aires and Yampolsky. She plays on a 1745 Piacenza violin and has played with Moscovia Chamber and Teatro Colon Orchestras. Maksim Stsura was born in Estonia and began playing piano at 6 and received his Master in Music from the RCM in 2013. Recipient of many prizes both here and abroad, he has performed extensively in the UK, Europe and Russia. In addition playing with many orchestras, particularly in Estonia, he is also in great demand as a chamber musician, with many London appearances. 21 November 2014 FAN YU, Piano MOZART – Variations: ‘ah vous dirai-je maman’ BEETHOVEN – Sonata Op.109 in E CHOPIN – Variations Brilliante LISZT – Dante Sonata Fan Yu has given solo recitals and concerts around England, Wales and Scotland, including London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room and Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and CBSO Centre. He is the recipient of many Piano prizes including 1st Prizes in the Renna Kellaway Recital and John Ireland Competitions. Honiton heard him last in May 2012, as part of the Hepplewhite Piano Trio. 20 February 2015 OSCAR ALABAU, Cello JEAN-SELIM ABDELMOULA, Piano BRAHMS – Sonata for Cello and Piano No.1 in E minor CESAR FRANCK – Sonata for Cello and Piano in A major Born in Catalonia, Oscar Alabau (below) won the 1st Prize in the International Competition of Jose Maria Vinaros Competition and 2nd Prize in the Guilhermina Suggia Competition. As a soloist Oscar has performed in London’s Barbican Hall and Kings Place and the Palau de la Musica in Jean-Sélim Abdelmoula Valencia during a (above) is a Swiss pianist recent Spanish tour. and composer. As a soloist he has played in venues including the Tonhalle (Zurich), the Palau de la Musica,and London’s Barbican and Wigmore Halls. He is the recipient of several prizes for piano and composition, notably the Prix culturel de la Fondation Leenards, First Prize at the Concours d’Interprétation Musicale de Lausanne, and First Prize at the Edvard Grieg International Composer Competition.
