Research profile
• Study of variation in composition of amount and quality in store proteins of cereals
(wheat, triticale, rye and oat) using electrophoretic, chromatographic and molecular
methods.
• Application of rheological methods to assess flour properties at the early stage of
selection of wheat and triticale breeding materials.
• Study of functional markers of genes determining variation in technological
characteristics of grain in wheat (Ttriticum aestivum L.).
• Investigation of the effect of genotype x environment interactions on variation
in quantitative composition of storage proteins in cereals (wheat, triticale).
• Analysis of variability qualitative traits in introgresive lines of wheat and triticale
with fragments of wild species of Triticum, Aegilops and Agropyron genom.
Methods
• electrophoretic – slab gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE and A-PAGE), high
performance capillary electrophoresis (zone electrophoresis, gel electrophoresis,
capillary isoelectric focusing, affinity, micellar electrokinetic electrophoresis),
• chromatographic - high (ultra) performance liquid chromatography (reverse-phase,
size exlussion, ion exchange),
• molecular – PCR amplification – gene identification by means of molecular markers,
• biochemical - estimation of gluten and gluten index, determination of falling number,
analysis of viscosity and amylolytic properties of cereals (Micro Visco-Amylo-Graph),
• rheological – analysis of dough and gluten extensibility (TA.XT plus Texture Analyser,
Dough Inflation System), analysis of dough mixing (mixograph, farinograph), baking in
the oven test lab.
Current research activities
• Analysis of qualitative traits variability in introgressive lines of hexaploid triticale with
fragments of the T. monococcum, T. aestivum, Aegilops and Agropyron genomes.
• The influence of selection on frequency change of high molecular glutenin subunits
encoded by Glu-1 loci in wheat populations.
• Assessment of wheat quality characteristics variability based on the analysis of
qualitative and quantitative composition of selected classes of proteins and
rheological studies.
