Of Park Bowling League By 5 Points
Sea Horses gained a 7-6 lead in on the ground, carrying most of
the third quarter of the football
game with New Rochelle last Saturday, but couldn't keep the visitors from winning 20-7.
The Sea Horse score was made
when Brian Slowey recovered a
fumble on the New Rochelle 30yard line. Two plays later, Robert
Brown carried the pigskin over
with an end run. The conversion
was made by Larry Fortunoff.
Although New Rochelle did the
scoring from then on, the visitors'
gains did not come easily.
At one point Danny Sandler almost intercepted a pass. If he
had, he would have gone for a
touchdown.
Later, New Rochelle drove 25
yards for a touchdown.
With approximately two mirv
utes left to play, Far Rockfway
had the ball on the New Rochelle
30-yard line and John Gay nor
went back to pass. He was hit,
however, lost the ball, and New
Rochelle drove approximately 30
yards for a touchdown. That
score was made with about a min-
the time.
The Far Rockaway team was
hampered throughout the game
because fullback Robert Steiner
could not play. He was out of the
game with an injury.
Crowd Gets Into Fifijht
Another problem arose at the
end of the game, when two players, one from each side, got into
a fight. The crowd took sides and
surged down onto the field. The
near-riot was quelled by coaches
and officials.
Also to be noted is that Far
Rockaway's defense held exceptionally well. Brian Slowey played
a wonderful game.
As for Far Rockaway's offense,
it was good, but hurt by two opposing linemen who stood 6 feet
4 and weighed 250 pounds each.
At the end of the game, scoreboard read:
