DEPUTY HEAD TEACHER SECONDARY SCHOOL (2 POSITIONS) Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Academy in the northern most Emirate of the UAE is seeking to recruit two experienced and qualified Secondary Deputy Head Teachers for its Secondary School beginning August 2014. The two positions have become available as a result of restructuring of the Secondary school leadership from next year. One position will be a Deputy Head – Pastoral and the other will be Deputy Head – Academic. The core requirement common to both positions is that they will have a student learning focus. The pastoral position is concerned with student life and welfare whereas the academic deputy’s area of focus will be the curriculum. RAK Academy is one of the oldest, largest and prestigious international schools in the UAE. The Secondary School is one of the 3 schools now in the Academy and will have a student population of over 700 next year. The Secondary School follows a modified version of the UK National Curriculum up to year 9 followed by the IGCSE in years 10 and 11. Students then have the option of taking the IB Diploma or A levels in Key Stage 5. We are seeking applications from individuals who have experience in leading and managing teams of teachers in a progressive learning environment of an IBO authorized school offering a choice of curriculum. Candidates will bring to the position: Successful experience for a minimum of 8 years as a classroom teacher across Secondary including at least 2 years as a Senior Teacher (or equivalent) of a school; Proven ability to be an instructional leader as well as an effective manager; Significant amount of postgraduate training (CPD) and/or Advanced degree; Successful experience in and understanding of developmental issues in pastoral care of adolescents; Understanding and ability to foster a positive learning and teaching climate/environment in the school; Commitment to promote a culture of teamwork and collaboration within the faculty; experience in one or more of IB, IGCSE or A-Level; Demonstrated knowledge of current educational practices for secondary school students; Experience in effective transition strategies involving students and parents from primary to secondary; Effective public relations with parents and the wider school community; Experience in, and proven knowledge of, current approaches to staff performance development; Understanding of the IBO philosophy and its integration into the curriculum; Proven ability as a team player, energetic and able to work flexible hours outside of the regular school day; Proven ability as an innovative, results-oriented, self-motivated, energetic, creative problem solver; An appreciation for the academic and personal issues facing children with language backgrounds other than English.
