We are organizing a clean up at Settler’s Park
in Tavernier on March 1st at 9 a.m. Sheriff’s Office
members and members of the public are welcome to
participate. Gloves, garbage bags and water will be
provided. Come on out and help the Sheriff’s Office
keep the community clean!
The Christina’s Courage Board of directors is looking for volunteers for
our first 5k run/walk. This is a great chance to give back to the community
and mostly to the Rape and Child Abuse victims in Monroe County. Come
out and work our race on February 15th 7-9am. If you have questions or
to make a donation to Christina’s Courage call Sgt. Linda Mixon 305-7970089.
Independence Cay in Marathon was the recipient of some
unclaimed bicycles from the Sheriff’s Office Property
Division. Facility operators plan to start a bicycle repair
program and the bikes will be used by residents of the
facility for transportation.
Members of the Major Crimes Unit cooked a meal at
Independence Cay last week. The Communications Division
will be cooking in March. Sgt. Linda Mixon is looking for
other units or divisions who want to help perform this
community service in coming months.
During the night 2:30 am after searching for a domestic
battery suspect in the wooded area of Sampson road Sgt.
Jason Madnick’s squad encountered these shopping carts
at the end of the street. The carts offered no resistance and
voluntarily agreed to return peacefully to Publix, where
they belong. They have now named themselves the MCSO
SCRT (Shopping Cart Return Team).
Sheriff Rick Ramsay, participating in the “Urban Forestry
Project” on 33rd Street in Marathon earlier this month.
The annual Corn Hole Tournament to benefit the Kevin
Piper Jr. Memorial Foundation raised $4,500 toward the
foundation’s goal of purchasing a hyperbaric chamber.
