THIS MONTH’S PROGRAM SOUTH JERSEY ORCHID SOCIETY Volume 31 Number 1 South Jersey Orchidist NEXT MEETING 1:00 SEPTEMBER 21, 2014 CHANGE OF SEASON CULTURE John Rogan, Robert Bacon, Dianne Haaf Three of our experienced members will discuss bringing your orchids inside as the seasons change. Some of us put some or all of them outside for the summer, so we will be bringing them back inside. Even if they haven’t been outside all summer, adjustments to their culture are needed for the cooler winter blooming season. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Greetings Everyone Welcome back to our thirty fifth season of South Jersey Orchid Society. I hope everyone had a good summer. As fall approaches, it is time to start thinking about adjusting our orchid culture for the cooler weather. Some of us put some or all of them outside for the summer, so we will be bringing our precious babies back inside. At our first meeting on Sunday, we will be dealing with those issues. We have an interesting year planned; so check out the schedule of speakers and workshops. The Annual Auction will be held in November. So as you are dividing your plants, remember that your donations help to make the auction a success. This, in turn, helps us to afford the great speakers. The DVOC Speakers Forum is scheduled for the day before our first meeting. Iff you haven't already made your reservation, there is still time. We also welcome guests at the door. There is a copy of the reservation form enclosed. Sunday, Sept 21, 1 PM. Come a little early, Share your darlings on the Show Table. Happy Growing Dianne Page 1 SOUTH JERSEY ORCHID SOCIETY Volume 31 Number 1 SJOS Calendar Sept. 21, 2014 SOCIETY OFFICERS President: Vice President: Secretary: Treasurer: Trustees: Past President Dianne Haaf Barbara Inglessis Bob Davis Wayne Bailey Sherron Davis Akiko Day Mike Jacobs Bob Bacon WEBSITE: http://www.sjorchids.com/ (856) 629-5610 (856) 722-0393 (856) 795-2964 (856) 256-8178 (856) 795-2964 (856) 228-2971 (856) 784-2247 (856) 665-4273 CONTACT: [email protected] Meeting Location Wenonah United Methodist Church 105 East Willow Street Wenonah, New Jersey REFRESHMENTS Oct. 19, 2014 Nov. 16, 2014 Dec. 7, 2014 Jan. 18, 2015 Feb. 15, 2015 Mar. 15, 2015 Apr. 19, 2015 May 17, 2015 Change of Season Culture John Rogan, Robert Bacon, Dianne Haaf Australian Dendrobiums Dick Doran Annual Auction Christmas Banquet MaryJo Gilsdorf Not Your Mother’s Phalaenopsis-Part 2 Cathy Higgins History of Orchid collecting Barbara Inglessis Growing for Perfection Dr. David Rosenfeld TBA Awards Luncheon American Orchid Society Judging Judging begins at 7:00 PM on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at Philadelphia Horticultural Center 100 N. Business has never been better and we encourage you to consider becoming the respected owner of this unique orchid nursery. We are selling the business to be relocated from its current site. Since J&L is primarily responsible for the huge popularity of miniature orchids, our whole inventory including standard sized plants, can be accommodated in a 3000 sq. ft. growing space. Included in the sale is our name and impeccable worldwide reputation, plant inventory, mailing list, website www.jlorchids.com, that generates a continuous year round income, and all necessary business contacts. We have been informed by USFWS authorities that the transfer of our extensive CITES Master List will be a simple procedure, enabling the new owners to sell orchids internationally. Here is a chance to travel the world in the name of orchids. Until we find a buyer, we will be conducting business as usual. Interested parties please contact us.
