Lino Print tips for Waterbased Cleanup
(Courtesy of Silkcut Lino company www.silkcutlino.com )"
!
1/Avoid the sink and use an atomiser. Spray water onto a rag
for easy clean up of water based inks."
2/Clean brayers by rolling off excess ink onto newspaper and then wipe down with a wet rag. Take care to clean
the ends of the rollers where ink can build up. Brayers can be easily damaged if left to soak in water or held
under a running tap. Clean and dry brayers stay flexible, work better and last much longer."
3/Clean lino blocks by wiping the printed surface with a damp rag and leave on a drying rack to dry. Washing lino
blocks under a tap can wet the hessian backing and cause the blocks to buckle when dry. "
4/Scrape excess ink onto newspaper with a spatula and then clean inking slab with an atomiser and wet rag. "
5/Keep a collection of rags and newspaper. In a classroom situation ask the students to only use the sink to wash
their hands and enjoy a safe and clean print studio!"

From the “Top Ten Print Tips” at www.annieday.com.au"
Print Tips by Rosemary Mostyn……..PAWA committee member
(www.annieday.com.au)
1/ Use Vaseline instead of easy wipe. Rosemary Mostyn has 2 great tips:
Vaseline is an excellent product to use in place of Easy Wipe in loosening up stiff inks. Really good for collagraphs
and cheaper too.
2/ Leftover ink can be scraped off glass with a spatula and placed on pre-cut pieces of Glad baking paper. Fold into
small parcels, tape and label colours and image details with a marker pen. Place snugly in a suitable size plastic
container with tight fitting lid. Ink should remain pliable for some time and not form a skin too quickly.
Print Tip by Jennifer Nieuwenhof
This eraser is magic. If you get a fingerprint of ink (oil based and water based) or indeed any inkspots on the paper
when pulling the print, just dampen one of these and use the same way as you would a normal eraser, gently in a
circular motion.
You will see a little
fibre on the surface
(it is from the eraser)
but the ink will be gone.
Let it dry and brush off
the residue.
Don't know how it works, but it does
If you have any print tips or an article that you would like to share; please email Sue
Marshall at [email protected] by the 26th of each month.
