Servelec Controls awards prestigious student prize
Servelec Controls is thrilled to once again sponsor a prestigious award presented to a student
of Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.
The Servelec Controls award is presented to the Best Honours Project in Software
Engineering. This year’s award was presented to Andrew Watt, whose family hails from
Memsie, Fraserburgh.
Andrew carried out his student placement year with the Servelec Controls team in Aberdeen
and built on that experience with real-time data systems to conceive an application which
helps Twitter users analyse data on a specific topic in a meaningful and revealing manner.
Presenting his app to a number of companies such
as IBM Israel, Deutsche Welle and Yahoo, Andrew
said: “Over the last few years there has been an
explosive growth of social networks with users
generating a mass of data by posting their own
news, opinions and reflections using a social media
conduit.
“A continual challenge for businesses in general is
their ability to harvest and interpret consumer
market intelligence data, which is what this app is
designed to address.”
The university is home to over 16,000 students and
has close links with Servelec Control’s Aberdeen
office.
Andrew is just one of many students who undertake
their student placements at Servelec Controls. Each
year the Servelec Group provides excellent
placement opportunities for around twenty students
in its offices across the United Kingdom.
