oldest and most respected hospitals in Ireland. It is a centre of National and International
excellence renowned for its research and tertiary services and is a teaching hospital of
University College Cork. The Mercy is a public Voluntary Hospital providing 350 beds and a
full range of inpatient, outpatient and day care services. It employs over 1000 people. The
Mercy is currently implementing a major strategic plan to shape the configuration of its range

REGISTRARS
Registrars in Anaesthesia – 12 months - MUH Jan 001
Experience will be offered in the following areas – Anaesthesia for Hepatobiliary /Pancreatic
Surgery, Upper & Lower GI Anaesthesia, Vascular Anaesthesia & Major Urology
Anaesthesia. Opportunities are available for modules in pain as well as experience in
Intensive Care Medicine. MUH is the only hospital in the country performing laparoscopic
oesophagectomies and laparoscopic hepatic resections. MUH is accredited for training in pain
medicine at fellowship level. We have active educational, audit and research programs and
we are very focused in assisting our trainees to successfully prepare for professional
examinations.

Details: Care of Gastroenterology and GIM inpatients and outpatients.
*Registrar in Gastroenterology/Endoscopy – 12 months – MUH Jan 003
Details: 50% Endoscopy, 50% GI Physiology laboratory
Registrars in General/Respiratory Medicine – 12 months - MUH Jan 004
Experience will be attained in tuberculosis, sleep medicine, bronchoscopy, ultrasound-guided
pleural procedures, pulmonary function, methacholine challenge and cardiopulmonary
exercise testing. Successful candidate will be expected to produce and present research data
at national and international meetings and ideally will seek to progress to higher medical

training (SpR) in Respiratory Medicine. Interviews will take place on Friday, 6 March 2015

medical and endocrinology patients.

The division of Cardiology Medicine is a citywide specialty based in the above three hospitals
in Cork. The successful Registrar’s will rotate within the department between the two
hospitals.
