Learn how to produce screen-prints from photographic or
hand drawn imagery using stenciling, tru-grain, mono
screenprint and photo screen-print techniques. Participants
will learn to prepare and process screens, print a small edition and
clean and degrease screens after use. This course is
suitable for complete beginners and also an opportunity for more
experienced participants to expand their existing skills.

Discover the World of Etching with Conall Cary
You will learn about paper and plate preparation, hard ground and
soft ground etching, aquatint, sugar lift and spit-bite
techniques, multiple plate registration, color printing and much,
much more. Etching is one of the most versatile printmaking techniques and the variety of imagery and constructions
possible once you know the basic techniques, are virtually
endless. So if you are a complete beginner or are looking to broaden
your existing skill base, this course offers exciting
new opportunities for everyone.

Photopolymer printmaking utilizes a light activated
printmaking plate that is etched, without the need for acid
and produces results similar to the 19th century photographic
processs of photogravure. You will use readymade Japanese
‘Solarplates’ .This course will be of particular interest to those working with photographic images, but hand-drawn
artwork can be used also.

Bookbinding for Artists & Designers
with Eimearjean McCormack
This workshop will introduce you to the basic principles of bookbinding such as folding, sewing and gluing, as well as hard cover
binding and text embossment. Each student will complete at least
three books. This course is particularly suitable for artists and
designers who want to learn the necessary skills to explore the possibilities of creating artists’ books within their own art practice.

An Introduction to Printed Textiles with Debbie Godsell
This course will introduce you to photo stencil techniques,

This workshop is suitable for those who have a basic knowledge of
mezzotint and for those who wish to incorporate maniere noire techniques into their practice. Alternative mezzotint grounds and mixed
mezzotint with etching and drypoint will be covered. The preparation
of pre-pasted paper for chine colle will form part of the workshop
and we will conclude with a demonstration of the steel facing process which extends the lifespan of intaglio plates.

Photo Intaglio with Riston Film
with Tony McClure
This is an ideal technique to creatively explore your
photographic images in particular and/or combine them with
scanned hand drawn material. With this method, a copper or
zinc plate is coated with a thin light sensitive film photopolymer (in
this case Riston film). Images are then transferred onto the plate via
exposure on a U.V. machine. No acid is required, the
finished plate can be printed like a standard etching. You will
be guided throughout the process and create an edition of
prints.

Waterbased Photo Screen-printing for Beginners
with Eimearjean McCormack
This course is designed to give participants a solid working knowledge of the screen-printing process using photographic
or hand-drawn imagery. Participants will be introduced to key
technical steps such as handling screen-printing equipment, cleaning and coating screens using photo emulsion, images preparation,
image exposure, mixing inks, registration and
printing. A small edition of colour screen-prints will also be
created by each participant.

About us
Cork Printmakers is the leading fine art print facility in the south of
Ireland, enabling the development of professional artistic practice
through the provision of facilities in etching, photo-intaglio, relief,
lithography, screenprint and digital print.
The workshop maintains a high standard of printmaking and fosters
innovation in contemporary print. It serves artists in the development
of their professional practice and encourages opportunities through
exhibition and exchange both national and internationally. Public
appreciation and experience of printmaking is actively promoted
through innovative education programmes which span all ages.

that suits you best. If you require any assistance in choosing the right

General information
Materials
Course fees include all materials, unless otherwise stated.
What to bring
An apron / old clothes and ideas for images are necessary for all
courses. Surgical gloves, pencils and brushes may also be useful.
Bring good quality high contrast photocopies for screen printing
and photo etching courses. Participants will be notified of any other
items required prior to all courses.
Lunch breaks
Lunch is from 1pm - 2pm for all courses. There are a number
of shops, restaurants and cafes in the vicinity.
Cancellation
Cork Printmakers reserves the right to cancel any course where
insufficent numbers enrol. Fees paid will be refunded and we will try
to give as much notice as possible in this event.

Enrolment information
If you would like to book a place on any of the courses listed, please
ring to confirm availability. Once a place is confirmed, please fill
out the booking form and return it, along with a €50 deposit or full
course payment to the address below. Payment must be made in
full, two weeks prior to the course start date.

Cancellation conditions
If the course is cancelled because of low enrolment, you will be fully
refunded.
Bookbinding for Artists & Designers
If you cancel your registration at least two weeks prior to the course
start date you will receive a refund of the total fee paid, minus a 10%
administration fee.
If you cancel your registration within two weeks of the course start
date, this will result in a refund, only if someone is found to
fill your place.

Course tutors
Johnny Bugler
Johnny Bugler holds a Masters in Fine Art Printmaking from Camberwell
College of Art, London. He is a practicing artist and is also a technician at
Cork Printmakers’ studio. He has been teaching workshops in printmaking since 2004, to all levels and age-groups.
Conall Cary
After studies at The University of Oregon, Conall went on to complete a
First Class Honours Degree from G.M.I.T., specializing in Printmaking. He
then moved to Scotland, where he worked teaching printmaking to people with mental health problems.
Debbie Godsell
Debbie studied at Limerick School of Art & Design and CIT Crawford
College of Art & Design, where she graduated with a Masters in
Printmaking in 2002. She exhibits
extensively and teaches printmaking and textiles.
Paul La Rocque
Paul is a practicing artist with a Degree in Printmaking from CIT Crawford
College of Art & Design, an M.A. in Applied Arts from University of Ulster
and an MSC in Multi-Media from UCC.

Aoife Layton
Aoife holds a Degree in Fine Art from Galway-Mayo Institue of Technology
and an M.A. from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. She is a practising artist and has exhibited widely both in Ireland and overseas.
Tony McClure
Tony has a Degree in printmaking from North Staffordshire University and
a Post Graduate Degree from Central St. Martins, London. He currently
lectures full time at the CIT Crawford College of Art & Design.
Eimearjean McCormack
Eimearjean graduated in 2007 with an M.A. in Fine Art Printmaking from
Camberwell College of Art, University of The Arts, London. As a practising artist, she has exhibited extensively throughout Ireland and internationally, including in U.S.A, London, France & China. She is currently
employed as Print & Photography Technician at the Centre for Arts &
Media, G.M.I.T., Galway.
