SECURE
AIRWAY
CLAMP
THE SOUTH AFRICAN MEDICAL RESEARCH COUNCIL
The secure airway clamp is a low-cost, disposable medical device
for retaining either endotracheal tubes or laryngeal mask airways
during anaesthesia. The device is designed to mitigate the myriad of
risks faced by anaesthetists and other health professionals during the
intubation procedure.
The benefits include:
• preventing tooth damage during tube insertion and from jaw clenching
when awaking from anaesthesia
• the ability to fix the tube in patients with severe facial burns
• no facial abrasion
• secure fixation regardless of skin condition (hair, oils, etc.) and in the
presence of blood or other bodily fluids
• a ‘bite block’ preventing patients from biting down on the tube and
blocking the airway
• rapid insertion and tube fixation
•recyclability.
