normal sentences
Adverbs of frequency go before the verb in normal sentences.
–
I usually drive to work.
–
They sometimes took part in our meetings.
–
He often brings the children to daycare.
Note: Some adverbs of frequency can be used at the start of a sentence to show emphasis
For example:

Usually, I drove to work. (= that was my normal routine)
Sometimes, I drove to work. (= but I also used other means of transport)
Always, I drink coffee.
negative sentences
In a negative sentence, the adverbs of frequency go between not and the verb.
–
You don’t usually eat breakfast.
–
We didn’t always remember to log out of the system.
Note: Either never or not are used in a sentence, never both.
For example:
I don’t eat fish. 
I never eat fish. 
I never don’t eat fish.

Adverbs of frequency go after to be and other auxiliary verbs like can, must, will and have (used in
forms like the present perfect).

FOCUS ON USE

Adverbs of frequency describe how often an action takes place.
–
They answer the question ‘how often?’ something happens.

Note: ‘Always’ can be used with the present progressive (is/am/are + verb+~ing) to show
something that seems to be happening continuously.
For example:

FOCUS ON USE
Adverbs of time go at the end of the sentence. They show exactly how often something takes places.
–
I drive to work every day.
–
She works on her car every weekend.
–
He has a meeting with India every three weeks.
–
They come to our office once a month.
–
I telephone with my supervisor three times a day.
Note: There are other adverbial expressions, which are often idioms, that also show how often
something takes places.
For example:
We see each other every now and then. (= occasionally)
I go to the trade fair once in a blue moon. (= very rarely)
She works overtime every once in a while. (= rarely)
He speaks Spanish at work from time to time. (= occasionally)
They play chess now and again. (= occasionally)
