Conditional 3
Use:
We use conditional 3 to imagine how a situation in the past could have been different. It is
too late to change the situation now.
Form: if + past perfect / would have + past participle ( short form: would’ve )
If I had known that it was going to rain, I would have taken an umbrella with me.

Note: You can have the if clause at the beginning or end of the sentence. If it comes at the end of
the sentence, there is no comma:
I would have taken an umbrella with me if I had known that it was going to rain.
We use a mixed conditional to talk about how the present would be affected if events in the past had
been different:
if + past perfect + would / might / could + infinitive
If there had been more team members at the meeting, we would have a better idea of what
everyone thinks.
