Invitation to Seminar Talk
Integrated Visual Analysis for Data‐‐Driven Sciences Marc Streit Johannes Keppler Universität Host: Bernd Bickel The process of scientific research has become increasingly data‐driven. The grand challenge has shifted from the acquisition of data to its analysis. Besides the sheer amount of data, its complexity poses a problem for state‐of‐the‐art analysis techniques. A central aspect of the sense‐
making process is to discover features and patterns across heterogeneous datasets from different sources, at different scales, and of various types. In this talk, I will summarize our efforts to come up with novel ways to visually analyze large, heterogeneous datasets. In particular, I will discuss our work on cancer subtype analysis that allows analysts to identify and characterize tumor subtypes in large patient populations as well as our recent efforts towards increasing reproducibility in data‐driven sciences. The presented work is embedded in the Caleydo project (http://www.caleydo.org), which is a long‐running collaboration between JKU Linz, Harvard University, University of Utah, and Graz University of Technology. Thursday, March 10, 2016, 02:00pm Mondi 2, Central Building This invitation is valid as a ticket for the IST Shuttle from and to Heiligenstadt Station. Please find a schedule of the IST Shuttle on our webpage (note that the IST Shuttle times are highlighted in dark green): http://ist.ac.at/fileadmin/user_upload/pdfs/IST_shuttle_bus.pdf The IST Shuttle bus is marked IST Shuttle (#242) and has the Institute Logo printed on the side.
