Christ, the Good Shepherd Parish Cristo, el Buen Pastor 633 Porter Avenue • Campbell, Ohio 44405 • (330.755.4141) (330)755-1367 (fax) • (330)755-3633 (Español) A Parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Youngstown The Mission of Christ, the Good Shepherd Parish is to celebrate the Sacraments, share our heritage and traditions, and support one another in living and sharing our faith in this community and throughout the world. May 3, 2015 5th Sunday of Easter BEARING FRUIT “Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.” John’s words come to us on this day when the Gospel passage presents us with the great image of the vine and the branches. Jesus uses the image as a warning to those who have begun to distance themselves from the way of the Lord. One of the ways this happens is when we love God and others “in word or speech” instead of “in deed and truth.” What does it mean for us to “remain in Christ”? In an extension of the metaphor, the Lord gives us an example. If we remain in him, we will bear much fruit. As the branches, we draw strength from Christ who is the vine. This strength enables us to bear fruit—to do the work of true discipleship. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. Rosa 2• CHRIST, THE GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH, CAMPBELL, OHIO Happy Easter! As you may have noticed, the Diocesan Stewardship Commission has been promoting a “Joy and Gratitude Campaign.” They have shared a number of inspirational thoughts during these 50 days of Easter. The Christian people, us as a Diocese and parish, we can all grow in our joy and gratitude, because God has blessed us so wonderfully. I pray that you catch the Spirit! Congratulations to our young people who make 1st Communion this Sunday! We pray that we may all grow in union and communion with Jesus and each other. As I mentioned last week, the parish offices have been moved. Please come to 633 Porter Ave. starting tomorrow. As part of the move, I eliminated the position of parish cook. So, sadly, this week will be Paula Kindinis’ last week. She was hired over 40 years ago at St. Lucy. We thank her for her many years of service to the parish. Our prayers and blessings go with her! At the last meeting, Pastoral Council began an important discussion. A concern was raised about reflecting the parishioners’ perspective. So, if you would like the Council members to know what you are thinking, please, reach out to one of the representatives. Next week is Mother’s Day. We remember all of those special women in our lives, living and deceased, who give us life and help us grow. God bless you, Fr. Conoboy Felices Pascuas!
