Morteratsch verwöhnt die Gäste täglich von Mitte Juni
bis Anfang Oktober jeweils von 9:00 bis 17:00 Uhr und
besticht durch ein besonderes Highlight: Eine Käse
produktion hautnah miterleben. Täglich startet das
traditionelle Schaukäsen in der Regel um 9:30 und 13:30
Uhr. Staunen, mitwirken und geniessen, eine kulinarische Reise für den Dreikäsehoch bis hin zum gestandenen Käse-Connaisseur. Tipp: Der ausgiebige Alpenbrunch; jeweils dienstags bis sonntags, 9:30 bis 11:30
Uhr (montags kein Brunch). Anmeldungen sind bis
17:00 Uhr des Vortages möglich.
Über Stock und Stein und soweit die Füsse tragen: Die
majestätische Bernina-Glaciers-Berglandschaft von
oben erleben. Ob bei einem Gletscher-Trekking vorbei
an den imposanten Gletscherspalten hinauf zum Crap
Pers, bei einer unvergesslichen Hochtour einen Berg
riesen des Bernina-Massivs erklimmen oder einen der
drei Klettersteige im Engadin meistern: Die Bergsteigerschule Pontresina bietet für alle Gäste das passende
Bergsporterlebnis. Erfahrene Bergführer sorgen für die
nötige Sicherheit. Eine gesunde Portion Adrenalin und
spektakuläre Aussicht garantiert!
Gross, grösser, riesig. Die Gletschermühlen von Cavaglia, auch «Töpfe der Riesen» genannt, wurden vom
Palü-Gletscher gestaltet. Über Jahrtausende hinweg
haben Gletscherwasser, Schutt und Kies den harten
Fels bearbeitet und riesige Löcher in den Boden gemahlen – ein eindrückliches Naturphänomen. Der Zugang
zu den Gletschermühlen ist ein Kinderspiel: Vom Bahnhof der Rhätischen Bahn in Cavaglia steht lediglich ein
zehnminütiger Fussmarsch an. Der Weg ist signalisiert,
der Eintritt ist frei. Der Gletschergarten ist von Mai bis
Oktober geöffnet. Während dieser Zeit werden jeden
Dienstag, Donnerstag, Samstag und Sonntag, jeweils
um 14:00 Uhr, Führungen ab dem Bahnhof Cavaglia angeboten.
Schritt für Schritt auf den Spuren des drittlängsten
Gletschers der Ostalpen wandern – dies bietet der Gletscherweg Morteratsch. 16 Haltepunkte informieren
über das Zurückweichen des Gletschers und über das
geheimnisvolle Leben in seinem Vorfeld. Bereits nach
knapp 50 Gehminuten ab dem Bahnhof Morteratsch erblickt man das Ziel: den milchigen Gletschersee und die
gigantische Eiszunge. Laden Sie die «Bernina Glaciers
App» auf Ihr Smartphone und geniessen Sie die fesselnden Audiotexte inmitten der eindrücklichen Landschaft. Kinder können in der einzigartigen Gletscherwelt den Geschichten des Morteratsch-Kinderbuchs und
Sabi folgen und dabei spannende Eindrücke sammeln am Ende der Tour wartet bestimmt eine Überraschung!

Strom kommt bekanntlich aus der Steckdose und ist
gelb. Nicht ganz. Wer etwas mehr über Strom erfahren
möchte und gerne wandert, ist auf dem Ökostrompfad
goldrichtig. Zwischen dem Lago Bianco auf dem Bernina
pass und Cavaglia erwarten den Wanderer, neben einer
der schönsten Gebirgslandschaften der Schweiz, zwölf
Informationstafeln. Diese erzählen auf anschauliche
Weise Geschichten aus der Welt der Energie. Und manch
Verblüffendes über Ökostrom. Der Pfad ist von Juni bis
Ende Oktober geöffnet. Neu bieten auch Kraftwerksführungen einen vertieften Einblick ins Thema Energie
– genau dort, wo der Strom produziert wird.

Die lokale 53 km lange Mountainbike Route Bernina Express hat den Namen vom legendären Zug der Rhätischen Bahn übernommen und ist ebenso abwechslungsreich wie inspirierend. Ab Samedan führt die
Route dem Bernina Tal entlang durch einmalig schöne
Landschaften die immer wieder den Blick auf die imposanten Gletscher des Bernina Massivs frei geben. Auf
der Passhöhe geht es links am Lago Bianco vorbei, bevor
die Abfahrt ins Valposchiavo beginnt. Die Terrasse des
Restaurants Belvedere oder das Buffet des Bahnhofs
Alp Grüm laden zu einer Genusspause ein. Bei Cavaglia
gehts vorbei am Gletschergarten und runter nach Poschiavo.
The local 53 km long mountain bike route known as Bernina Express has as its namesake the legendary train
route of the Rhaetian Railway and is every bit as diverse
and inspiring. From Samedan, the route follows the
Bernina Valley through a unique, beautiful mountain
landscape, providing repeated views to the imposing
glaciers of the Bernina Massif. At the pass summit, the
route goes along the left shore of Lago Bianco, before
the exciting descent into the Valley of Poschiavo begins.
The sunny terrace of the Restaurant Belvedere or the
buffet of the Alp Grüm Railway Station will provide refreshments and a welcome break. At Cavaglia the route
passes the glacier garden before descending to Poschiavo.

Il Bernina Express è un sentiero lungo 53 km, molto vario e stimolante per gli amanti della mountain bike. Il
nome deriva dal leggendario treno della Ferrovia Retica.
Da Samedan il tracciato porta alla valle del Bernina attraverso paesaggi di incredibile bellezza con vista sugli
imponenti ghiacciai del massiccio del Bernina. In cima
al passo si costeggia la riva del Lago Bianco, prima di iniziare la discesa in Valposchiavo. Passando vicino alla
terrazza del ristorante Belvedere o del ristorante Alp
Grüm è difficile non fare una sosta per ammirare il panorama. A Cavaglia il sentiero passa davanti al giardino
dei ghiacciai e scende fino a Poschiavo.
Nulla è più rigenerante di una pausa al sole sulla terrazza della Diavolezza. E per di più di fronte a uno scenario
mozzafiato, che dalla nuova terrazza si ammira ancora
meglio. Niente poco di meno che 8 vette che raggiungono i 4000 m nello scenario del massiccio del Bernina.
Uno spettacolo per gli amanti della natura e un vero
eldorado per gli scalatori e gli appassionati di alta montagna. Fare una passeggiata sul ghiacciaio fino a Morteratsch, sullo Via Terrata scalare il Piz Trovat o rilassarsi
nella Jacuzzi più alta d’Europa, alla Diavolezza tutto è

Bernina-Trek: Weitwanderweg von SAC-Hütte zu
SAC-Hütte
Die hochalpine Landschaft des Bernina-GlaciersGebietes mit Wanderschuhen erobern: mit der legendären Weitwanderung «Bernina-Trek». Der Wanderer
stellt sich, je nach Kondition und Erfahrung, seine individuelle Route zusammen und wählt zwischen Etappen
im Albula-, Bernina- und Puschlav-Gebiet. Entlang der
Strecke gibt es immer wieder die Möglichkeit, sich in
Bergrestaurants zu stärken. Die Wanderrouten sind
stets in der Nähe von Verkehrswegen, sodass der mehrtägige Trek auch vorzeitig beendet werden kann. Der
«weiss-rot-weiss» signalisierte Trek verbindet die
SAC-Hütten im Bernina-Gebiet Tschierva und Boval
über Pontresina.

Hikers can assemble their own itinerary according to
their level of physical condition and experience, and
choose between two stages in the areas of Albula, Bernina and Puschlav. Along the way, there are opportunities to stop and top of your tank in a mountain restaurant. The hiking trails are always near other transport
axes, so multi-day treks can easily be broken off if
necessary. The SAC huts of the Bernina area, Tschierva
and Boval, are connected by the white-red-white arked
trekking trails by way of Pontresina.
What do Otto von Bismark, Baron Rothschild and the

Giardino dei Ghiacciai Cavaglia: Viaggio nel tempo nelle
marmitte dei giganti
Grandi, enormi, giganti: le marmitte dei giganti di Cavaglia sono state formate dal ghiacciaio del Palü. Col
passare dei millenni l’acqua del ghiacciaio, detriti e ghiaia hanno creato degli enormi buchi nella roccia dando
vita a un impressionante fenomeno naturale. Raggiungere le marmitte dei giganti è facilissimo: dieci minuti a
piedi dalla stazione della Ferrovia Retica di Cavaglia. Il
tragitto è segnalato. Il Giardino dei Ghiacciai di Cavaglia
è aperto da maggio a ottobre. In questo periodo ogni
martedì, giovedi, sabato e domenica alle ore 14:00 inizia
una visita guidata.

Tipp 1: Ospizio Bernina – Alp Grüm – Cavaglia (Marschzeit
ca. 3 Std. – leicht)
Vom Ospizio Bernina (2253m) führt zuerst ein ebener
Weg am Lago Bianco entlang bevor er hinunter zur Alp
Grüm (2210m) zweigt, wo ein herrlicher Ausblick ins
Puschlav und auf den Palügletscher wartet. Ein Zickzackweg führt hinunter nach Cavaglia (1693m) oder
sogar weiter bis nach Poschiavo (1021m). Tipp: Besichtigung der faszinierenden Gletschermühlen in Cavaglia

Variante: Abstecher über Berghaus Sassal Masone
(2355m) mit den typischen Steinhäuschen «crot». Der
Abstieg direkt nach Alp Grüm (2091m) erfordert ein
bisschen Trittsicherheit!

Big, bigger, huge! The glacial mills of Cavaglia, also
known as the "Giants' Cauldrons", were hewn into the
rock by the Palü Glacier. Over the course of thousands of
years, gravel and debris, transported by the pressurized
glacial water have ground giant holes into the bedrock
- an impressive natural phenomenon. Access to the
glacial mills is a cake walk: from the Rhaetian Railway
station in Cavaglia, it is no further than 10 minutes'
walk. The path is well marked and entry is free. The Glacier Garden is open from May to October. During this
time, guided tours from the Cavaglia Railway Station
are offered every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and
Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Step by step along the track of the third longest glacier
of the Eastern Alps. 16 posts inform visitors about the
receding glacier and the mystical lifeforms in its wake.
Just 50 minutes on foot from the railway station of Morteratsch, one catches sight of the day’s objective: the
milky glacial lake as well as the glacier's giant ice-tongue. Download the «Bernina Glaciers App» onto your
smartphone and enjoy the accompaniment of a compelling audio text in the midst of the impressive
landscape. Children can experience this unique glacial

Passo dopo passo sul terzo ghiacciaio più lungo delle

basta una passeggiata di circa 50 minuti per ammirare

Lago Bianco on the Bernina Pass and Cavaglia you’ll get

of energy, including some surprising facts about green
power. The path is open from June until the end of October. You can also learn more about energy by taking a
guided power plant tour – and see for yourself where the
electricity’s actually generated.
Ecosentiero e visita alle centrali elettriche
Ma com’è fatta l’energia? Qualcuno dice che sia gialla.
Ma è proprio così? Chi vuole saperne di più e scoprire il
mondo dell’energia, abbinando il tutto a una sana passeggiata, non può perdersi l’ecosentiero. Tra il Lago
Bianco, posto sul Passo del Bernina, e Cavaglia, il visitatore potrà scattare meravigliose foto panoramiche in
uno dei paesaggi più affascinanti della Svizzera, e
seguire le dodici tavole informative dell’ecosentiero in
cui, oltre a fornire interessanti particolarità legate al
territorio, si spiega come funziona l’energia. Il sentiero
è accessibile da giugno a ottobre. Inoltre da quest’anno
le centrali elettriche sono aperte al pubblico con visite
guidate: per scoprire l’energia alla fonte, proprio dove
viene prodotta.
Tip 1: Bernina Hospice – Alp Grüm – Cavaglia (hiking time
approx. 3 hrs. – easy)
Ein gut ausgebauter, aber schmaler Bergweg führt von
der Diavolezza Bergstation (2978m) auf den Munt Pers
(3207m). Zum Teil ist das Gelände etwas steil und erfordert eine gewisse Trittsicherheit, jedoch ist der Weg für
ältere Kinder gut machbar. Der traumhafte Ausblick
über den Pers- und Morteratschgletscher, Piz Palü, Bellavista und Piz Bernina - dem mit 4049 m höchsten Berg
der Ostalpen, bringt jeden zum Staunen. Zurück geht
man den gleichen Weg. Das i-Tüpfelchen aber setzt man
der Wanderung, wenn noch vor Sonnenaufgang (mit
Stirnlampe) losmarschiert wird, denn das Schauspiel
eines erwachenden Tages am Berninamassiv ist unvergesslich. Übernachten kann man direkt auf der Diavolezza.
From the Bernina Hospice (2253m) a level path first
leads along the shore of Lago Bianco before leading off
on its descent to Alp Grüm (2210m), where a beautiful
view of Puschlav and the Palü Glacier await. A series of
switchbacks leads down to Cavaglia (1693m) or even
further down to Poschiavo (1021m). Tip: Have a look at
the fascinating glacial mills in Cavaglia on your way,

Alternative: Make a detour to the mountain hut of Sassal Masone (2355m) with its characteristic Crott stone
houses. The descent directly following Alp Grüm requires a bit of sure-footedness!
Verhaltenstipps beim Betreten von Alpweiden
Beim Betreten der Weide:
Beachten Sie die Informationstafeln. Verhalten Sie sich
ruhig und scheuchen Sie die Tiere nicht auf. Schliessen
Sie das Gatter und folgen Sie dem Wanderweg auf der
Weide.
Wenn Kühe den Weg versperren:
Bewahren Sie Ruhe, halten Sie Abstand zu ihnen und
gehen Sie um die Herde herum.
Wenn Sie einen Hund dabei haben:
Nehmen Sie Ihren Hund an die Leine und halten Sie ihn
unter Kontrolle. Hunde wecken bei Herdentieren ein
Abwehrverhalten. Falls Kühe Ihren angeleinten Hund
angreifen, lassen Sie ihn los, damit er fliehen kann.
Wenn Kühe sich drohend oder aggressiv verhalten: Verlassen Sie die Weide langsam rückwärts.
Wanderausrüstung:
Eine gute Ausrüstung ist für die Wanderungen, die
grösstenteils über Bergwanderwege im Gebirge führen,
Pflicht. Empfehlung: gute Trekkingschuhe, warme
Kleidung, Regen- und Sonnenschutz. Bei Übernachtungen in einer SAC-Hütte zusätzlich einen Schlafsack
mitnehmen.

through the wonderful world of rock and ice, past gigantic seracs and glacial mills down to Morteratsch.
Register the evening before until 5:00 p.m. at the Mountaineering School in Pontresina (T. +41 81 842 82 82,

Tip 3: Cavaglia – Val Pila – Poschiavo (hiking time approx.
5 hrs. – intermediate)
Getting there and back: with the Rhaetian Railway to
Cavaglia, return from Privilasco or Poschiavo.
A challenging hike in the wildlife protection area, along
the deep gorge of Puntalta with glacial mills (Cavaglia
1703m) to the dreamy little hamlet of Angeli Custodi
(1113m). Restaurant and accommodation available in
Cavaglia.
Tip 4: Val da Camp Natural Preservation Area (hiking time
approx. 5 hrs. – intermediate)
Alp Grüm is only accessible on foot or by train, which
makes one of its most wonderful panoramic curves
here. From this point, you will find a breath-taking panorama of the Poschiavo Valley, all the way off to the
Bergamasker Alps in the distance. You will be awestruck by the view of the chutes running down from the
Curnasel to the lovely Alp Palü; the glacial runoff gliding like milky veins down the rocky flanks of Piz Caral,
Piz Palü, Piz Canton and Piz Varuna, and collecting in
streams and cascading downwards, flowing among the
boulder-strewn larch groves and pouring in the glimmering turquois reservoir, whose surface reflects the
glacial crevasses above. On the valley floor resplendent
like a defiant fortress stands Repower's Palü hydroelectric facility.
Punto panoramico Alp Grüm: una vista mozzafiato
Alp Grüm è raggiungibile solo a piedi o in treno, che qui
compie una delle sue più spettacolari curve panoramiche. Da qui si apre una vista che toglie il fiato sulla Valposchiavo fino alle Alpi bergamasche. Lo sguardo si estende sul Curnasel e scende sull’Alp Palü, un grazioso
angolo della Valposchiavo, sul laghetto turchese che
riflette il ghiacciaio, rimane impigliato tra i larici, scivola sui torrenti e sulle cascate schiumose verso i profili rocciosi del Piz Caral, Piz Palü, Piz Canton e Piz Varuna. Nel fondovalle, come un’imponente rocca, spicca la
centrale idroelettrica Palü della Repower.

Rules of Conduct when Treading upon Alpine Pastures
When entering the pasture:
Pay attention to the informational panels. Behave
calmly and do not scare the animals. Remain on marked
paths, and securely close any gates you go through.
If cows block your way:
Remain calm and maintain a safe distance as you make
your way around the herd.
If you have a dog with you:
Keep your dog on a leash and keep it under control. Dogs
can cause herd animals to behave defensively. In the
event that your dog is attacked by the cows, let go of the
leash so it can escape to safety. If the cows are behaving
threateningly or aggressively: slowly leave to pasture
walking backwards away from them.
Hiking equipment:
Good equipment is necessary for any hikes through
mountainous terrain; good hiking boots, warm clothing, rain and sun protection are strongly recommended. When spending the night in a SAC hut, it is necessary to take a sleeping bag liner with you - for hygienic
reasons.

Dall’Ospizio Bernina (2253m) comincia un sentiero piano
che costeggia il Lago Bianco. Doppo cominica la discesa
verso Alp Grüm (2210m), dove si apre uno splendido
panorama su Poschiavo e sul ghiacciaio del Palü, il sentiero si divide. Un tracciato a zig zag scende fino a
Cavaglia (1693m) o se si vuole fino a Poschiavo (1021m).
Consiglio: Visita delle marmitte dei giganti di Cavaglia,
www.ghiacciai.info.
Variante: Una tappa al rifugio Sassal Masone (2355m)
con il crot, la tipica costruzione in pietra. La discesa ad
Alp Grüm (2091m) richiede un passo sicuro.
Una bella escursione dalla Diavolezza al Morterasch,
attraverso l’incantevole paesaggio ghiacciato alpino,
passando di fianco a giganti pezzi di ghiaccio e marmitte dei giganti. Esperte guide alpine conducono l’escur
sione.

A well-built, but narrow mountain trail leads from the
mountain station of Diavolezza (2978m) to Munt Pers

certain level of sure-footedness. However, the trail can
be mastered by older children. The beautiful views of
the Pers and Morteratsch Glaciers, Piz Palü, Bellavista
and Piz Bernina - with a height of 4049m, the highest
mountain in the Eastern Alps - amazes all who cast
their gaze upon it. Return along the same route. If you

HIKING TIPS
Tipp 5: Diavolezza – Munt Pers – Diavolezza (Marschzeit
ca.2 ½ Std. - leicht)
Alp Grüm ist nur zu Fuss oder per Bahn erreichbar, die
hier eine ihrer wundervollsten Panoramakurven dreht.
Von hier aus bietet sich ein atemberaubendes Panorama
auf das Valposchiavo und bis hin zu den Bergamasker
Alpen. Der Blick wandert über die Murgänge am Curnasel hinab auf die liebliche Alp Palü, zum türkis schimmernden Stausee, der die Gletscherabbrüche spiegelt,
verfängt sich in den von Findlingen durchsetzten Lärchenhainen, gleitet den Bächen und Wasserfällen entlang, die sich wie milchige Adern an den felsigen Flanken des Piz Caral, Piz Palü, Piz Canton und Piz Varuna
hinziehen. Im Talgrund prangt wie eine trutzige Burg
das Palüwasserkraftwerk der Repower.
Un sentiero stretto, ma ben tenuto porta dalla Diavolezza stazione a monte (2978m) sul Munt Pers (3207m). Il
terreno è a tratti un po’ ripido e richiede una certa sicurezza. Nonostante ciò è fattibile anche per i bambini più
grandi. La vista sul ghiacciaio Pers e Morteratsch, sul
Piz Palü, sul Bellavista e sul Piz Bernina, la vetta più alta
delle Alpi orientali con i suoi 4049 m, riempie tutti di
stupore. Si ritorna percorrendo lo stesso tracciato. Ma la
ciliegina sulla torta è l’escursione prima dell’alba, con
una lucina sulla fronte per ammirare l’indimenticabile
Come comportarsi quando si cammina tra i pascoli
Prima di attraversare un pascolo:
Fare attenzione ai cartelli. Stare calmi e non spaventare
gli animali. Chiudere il recinto e seguire il sentiero sul
pascolo..
Se le mucche impediscono il passaggio:
Rimanere calmi, mantenere la distanza e fare il giro attorno alle mucche per poi riprendere il sentiero.
Se avete un cane:
Legare il cane al guinzaglio e tenerlo sotto controllo. Gli
animali da pascolo assumono un atteggiamento di difesa in presenza di un cane. Se le mucche attaccano il cane
al guinzaglio, liberarlo affinché possa scappare. Se le
mucche sono minacciose o aggressive, tornare indietro
lentamente e lasciare il pascolo.
Attrezzatura:
Una buona attrezzatura é d’obbligo per le escursioni sui
sentieri di montagna. Consiglio: buone scarpe da trekking, vestiti caldi, protezione dalla pioggia e dal sole.
Per i pernottamenti in un rifugio SAC portare un sacco a
pelo.
