The tree planting will start from 10:00am and will be followed by a BBQ lunch at approximately 12:00pm. We plan to go ahead with the day even if it rains (unless it gets really heavy.) If it rains before the day, the ground condition maybe muddy, so please dress to suit the weather conditions. If you are bringing children, you may need a change of clothes for them. If you have gardening gloves and gumboots please bring them along. We will be providing shovels and buckets, as well as nursery trees to plant. ANE will be providing aBBQ lunch for all volunteers to thank you for your involvement. However as this is an annual event and we have been bringing some Japanese food each year from home, the students from La Trobe University are looking forward to having some “Onigiri (rice balls) and other Japanese food. Therefore if you are able to bring some home made Japanese food, that would be greatly appreciated.. Date: 24 June (Sunday) from 10:00am till 2:00pm Where: La Trobe University Bundoora Campus 60 Plenty Rd Bundoora Fee: Free Contact: Mari Heazlewood Ph: 03 9397 8421 Email: [email protected] ANE Newsletter / June 2012 Page 2 of 6 Camilo Olive 使用、健康料理セミナー Camilo Health and Cooking Seminar for ANE members 企業会員一号である Camilo Olive Farm は 2006 年から ANE の活動を支援してきてくれています。日野原先生がメルボルン訪問時に Camilo のジョアンとアンがサンプルのエキストラオリーブオイル（EVOO）をサンプルとして進呈し、また Camilo のオリーブオイルを日本に輸出する旨をお伝えしました。当初日本の市場では｢オーストラリアのオリーブオイルなど興味なし、ヨーロッパのオリーブオイルの方がオーストラリア産より人気がある｣と厳しい反応でした。先日行われた、一般社団法人日本オリーブソムリエ協会が主催の｢Olive Japan 2012 国際エキストラバージンオリーブオイルコンテスト｣(2012 年 4 月 19，20 日開催)の結果は、この日本市場の反応を覆す結果となりました。140 種の EVOO の中から 12 人の審査員が優秀な EVOO を選びだしました。当社の｢Max ブランド｣は金賞を、｢リグアン種｣は銀賞を受賞という好成績です。｢Max ブランド｣は当社のオリーブ園番犬の Max 君にちなんで名づけられた商品です。Max 君のお仕事はオリーブをカンガルーや野鳥から守ることで、当社の EVOO の製造過程にしっかり貢献しています。オリーブは毎年 5 月、6 月が収穫され、搾油が行われます。ANE は毎年、Camilo での搾油体験を兼ねたオリーブ園訪問を企画していますが、今年はオリーブ収穫作業の都合により、搾油体験はキャンセルとなりました。その代わりに 7 月 8 月に｢EVOO 使用の健康料理｣セミナーを企画することになりました。今年生産されたばかりのオイルを試食、オリーブオイルについて詳しく学ぶことが出来ます。ご興味のある方は以下までお問い合わせ下さい。お問い合わせ: 真理･ヘーゼルウッド Ph: 03 9397 8421 Email: [email protected] 6 EVOO Camilo Olive Farm is ANE’s first Corporate Sponsor, supporting us since 2006. When Dr. Hinohara came to Melbourne, Joan and Anne presented sample extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), and informed him that Camilo will export to Japan. When they started to marketing into Japan, they were told: “Sorry, we are not Camilo gourmet delight interested. European olive oil was better than Australian. “ The results of Olive Japan 2012 International show in April demonstrated that this was not always true. Out of 140 EVOOs blind tasted by 12 selected judges, Camilo won a gold prize for Max’s Blend and won a silver prize for their Ligurian EVOO. Both oils were complimented for their aroma and complexity – which, along with a Max looking very cute ‘harmonious’ flavour, is what olive oil judges look for in great extra virgin olive oil. Max’s Blend is named after the olive farm watchdog who chases birds and kangaroos away when the olives (the fruits of the tree) are maturing and he contributes to the Camilo production. Olives are usually picked in May and June Max on the job depending on the season, and we arrange olive farm visit every year for the harvest picnic. However, due to low numbers this year, the Camilo picnic has been cancelled. Instead, Camilo is going to work with the ANE to develop an EVOO health and cooking seminar in July or August. Their new season’s oils will be part of the seminar so people will be able to taste and learn about EVOO during the session. Email: [email protected] Max’s Blend 日野原先生の健康の秘訣日野原先生は、毎朝フルーツジュース、野菜ジュース等に大さじ一杯のエキストラバージンオリーブオイルを入れて召し上がっていらっしゃいます。これも日野原先生の数多くの健康の秘訣のひとつです。オリーブオイルに含まれるオレイン酸は美容･健康効果に飛んでいて｢元気で長生き｣を助けます。エキストラバージンオリーブオイルは、オリーブの絞ったジュースだけでその他の混合物はありません。びんを空けたら冷蔵庫に入れる必要はありませんが、冷暗所に保存し、４ヶ月くらいで使い切ってしまってください。空気に触れ酸化されると劣化が起こりおいしくなくなります。これから寒くなりますが、かさかさな皮膚、つやのない髪には少量を使って高い化粧品でなくても美容効果になります。 ANE Newsletter / June 2012 Page 3 of 6 6 やけどと緊急病棟の話～ウィリアムズタウン病院にて My Burn and Emergency Department at Williasmtown Hospital あまり病気とか怪我には縁のない私ですが、事故はいつ起こるかわからない！という体験をしましたのでご報告しておきましょう。土曜の夜、夕飯も済んで｢さあのんびりしましょう｣とお茶を淹れる用意をしました。しばらく使っていなかった急須を使い蓋をしたら、蓋が沈没して｢きゃー｣と悲鳴を上げました。右手の甲の皮がペロッと剝けてしまいましたのでびっくり。救急法で習ったように冷水に 20 分つけました。指は動くけれど皮がむけたのが心配で Williamstown 病院の緊急病棟に駆け込みました。車で 5 分です。受付の人に｢火傷をした｣と包帯をした手を見せたら、看護師さんだったようで、すぐにアロエの入ったパッドに替えてくれて待つようにと言います。メデイケア、シニアカード、健康保険などの登録をします。いつ起こったか、どういう処置をしたか、も聞かれます。20 分ぐらい待たされましたが、｢市内の病院では４時間待たされた｣などとも聞いていましたから比較的空いていて助かりました。看護師さんが２人様子を見に来た後、お医者様が診て治療法を看護師さんに指示します。｢いつ破傷風の注射をしたか？｣と聞かれたので、｢予防注射は全部したのが２００２年｣と答えました。破傷風の注射は 10 年に一回しなくてはならないと看護婦さんに教えられ、念の為にうちましょうと言われました。抗生物質（Clamoxyl =Amoxycillin 855mg, Potassium Clavulanate 125mg）も明日薬屋で買うようにと処方箋をくれました。その晩は１錠もらい、痛み止めは運転してきた為、家に帰ってから飲むようにと２錠いただきました。強力なので帰り道で倒れると困るからとのことです。火傷軟膏も塗ってくれ、また明日いらっしゃいと言われました。(それから毎日続けて２日間、その後は６日間と傷が治るまで通うことになりました。) 支払いは病院が Bulkbilling をしてくれ無料でした。医者にかかったことがあまりないのでいくら医者代がかかるか、あまり理解がないのでびっくりしました。緊急病棟の看護師さんたちも気さくでのんびりしていて楽しかったです。緊急病棟に駆けつける患者さんはみなさん、気分も動転していたりストレスも多いと思いますが、このような看護師さんたちだったら安心して世話してもらえるなと久しぶりに気分のよい経験に満足しました。火傷の治療方法も昔のように軟膏ではなく｢皮膚に近い皮｣を貼り付けることも知り｢皮の再生力｣を促すことも知りました。火傷のあとがどのように回復するか、ケロイド状に残るのか興味深いです。これから寒い時期に入りますので、みなさんも火傷にはくれぐれもご注意ください。特にお子さんには気をつけて! お茶お飲もうとする日常でさえ危険なのですから。真理・へーゼルウッド I rarely have any illness or injuries my personal life, but I had an accident recently and I would like to share my experience with you. One Saturday evening, after my evening meal, I was relaxing and decided to have a cup of tea. I had used the same tea pot for a long time, so I decided to use a different one for a change. After pouring the boiling hot water into the tea pot, I dropped the lid into the water and spilled boiling water on my hand. Ouch! I put my hand under the cold water straight away, but my skin had come off over quite a wide area. So I soaked my hand for 20 minutes, and bandaged it, and rushed to the Emergency Department at Williamstown hospital which luckily was only 5 minutes drive away. I reported to reception and told them what had happened. The receptionist (who also must be a nurse), looked at my burn, and affixed a pad with Aloe solution before asking some questions. Because this was the first time I had gone to the Hospital so I had to provide them with all my relevant details. I showed them my Medicare card, my senior card, my private health insurance card etc. They asked me when and how it happened, how I treated? Then it took about 20 minutes before I was seen by a doctor. (I am told that in the city emergency department, some people have to wait 4 hours before seeing anyone, so I was lucky to have such a short wait in this small suburban hospital.) A couple of nurses first looked at my burn, then the doctor came. The first question he asked was “When did you have your last Tetanus shot?” I had received all my precaution injections, after I completed my aged care course in 2002. The doctor said that I should have a Tetanus shot every 10 years. The doctor then arranged to have a tetanus shot straight away. He also prescribed a course of antibiotics for 6 days. For the pain, he gave me two tablets saying “this is quite a strong pain killer, and if you are driving, you should not take them now so go home then take them. “The nurse applied some burn cream, and told me to come back the next day and the day after that. Then I was to return 6 more times so the medical staff could check my progress. I checked with the reception desk for the payment, and was surprised to learn that it was free. I was pleased that I was covered by Medicare. The nurses were cheerful, and friendly. They may see many critical emergency situations, but I was glad to see that they could still enjoy their work. Burn treatments in this modern hospital are so different to methods of the past. Skin grafting or skin regeneration technology is now applied to treat burns. I am now understanding a treatment process, and I shall see how the scar will heal. Now that the colder weather is approaching, please take extra care around the hot water and appliances. Parents should watch children carefully. Even a simple attempt to have a cup of tea can result in a nasty accident and these accidents can happen so quickly. So many people came and joined the celebration of “Parents Day” and everyone had a fantastic time. ANE’s Hanagasa Dancers performed on the stage and soon after Korean dance group joined the dance which made the performance even more successful. 5 月 20 日ジャパンフェスティバル今年の ANE 参加はインフォーメーションデスクと飲食店の 2 店を出店をいたしました。インフォメーションデスクでは、折り紙のデモンストレーションや本の販売、またボランティアによって作られた手作り和風小物、また、Camilo オリーブオイルや韓国のりの販売もいたしました。韓国のりは完売と好売れ行きでした。飲食店では団子と抹茶ラテの販売。ボランティアが朝早くからお店のセットアップ、そして団子作りに励みました。団子を練り、茹で、更に練り、茹でるの繰り返し。作業はとても忙しいものとなりましたが、みなで楽しいおしゃべりをしたり、笑ったりと充実した一日となりました。団子のたれは、みたらし、あんこ、きな粉・黒蜜の 3 種類を用意しました。以外なことに、一種類のたれの注文よりも、すべてのたれのミックス注文の方が多くありました。最後は、ボランティアのお子さん達が、箱に商品を入れ、練り歩き販売のお手伝いをしてくれ、調理したものはすべて完売できました。花笠踊りは 12 時と 2 時に披露する時間を設けていただき、講師よしこ･スタインズさんを筆頭にボランティアダンサーが優雅に踊りを披露。フェスティバルにいらしていたお客様も突然参加をしてくれたり、講師よしこさんの娘さん(Yumi Stynes さん!)、そしてお孫さんも参加され、充実したものとなりました。花笠コスチュームで団子屋に戻ってきたボランティアの女性たちは、隣のお店の方にも気に入られ、一緒に写真撮影。更に、みなずーっと気になっていた、お隣商品、ねじり切りされたポテトフライ、その他フライド商品をどっさりいただき大満足。きちんとこちらからも団子、そしてスペシャル抹茶ラテ(団子とあんこ入り)をお返しさせていただきました。ボランティアの皆さん、それぞれ大変な労力を提供してくださりありがとうございました。最後に団子屋の会計をきりもりしてくれた、少年「たいがくん」に ANE 一同から深い感謝を送ります。 We had 2 stalls at the Japan Festival. One was an information Desk where we had origami demonstrations and sold some handmade Japanese items (which were donated by volunteers), books, Camilo olive oils and Korean nori (seaweed sheets). Our other stall was in the food area and we made Dango (Japanese rice cakes) and green tea flavoured Latte. We started early in the morning to set up the stall and began making the dango. We had to knead the dough, make balls and boil them, then knead the dough, make balls and boil them, and on and on and on... It was very busy but we had a great chat and a laugh together during the day. We had 3 different kinds of sauce for the dango. Mitarashi (sweet soy), red bean and Kinako (sugared soy flour) with treacle. Many people enjoyed mix of those 3 sauces rather than having just one kind. At the end of the day, some little helpers (children of our volunteers) started to take the food around the crowd and sold the last of them. Our Hanagasa dance team performed twice, once at 12pm and again at 2pm. The performance was lead by Yoshiko Stynes with much beauty and grace. Some of the viewers decided to join in the dance as well (including Yoshiko’s daughter, Yumi Stynes! and her granddaughters). It was a very successful performance. When they came back with their Hanagasa costumes, the people next door to our Dango stall asked the girls if they can take a picture together. That started up a conversation and we end up exchanging some of our food with them. We enjoyed their twirled fried potato and some other fried food, and they loved our dango. We also made a special green tea late with dango and red bean sauce. Lastly thank you to all of our volunteers whohelped our stall to be so successful. Your contribution was greatly appreciated. A special thank you from all ANE members also goes to a young gentleman Taiga-kun for looking after our dango stall orders and cash handling. Your contribution was outstanding.
