Advent Week 4 - LOVE
T
he theme of “Love” of this
week’s Advent season brings
us to the core of our preparation,
the reason for our celebration
and the essence of our Christian
faith. God is the plenitude of
Love and we are each created
in His image and likeness. With
the love of God planted in our
hearts and woven into every fibre
of our being, let us reaffirm this
Truth.
Let us remind ourselves that
“if we speak without love,
H
then our words are like a gong
booming or a cymbal clashing” (1
Cor.13:1); a lot of noise, attention
and adulation, but hollow, empty
and useless.
As
God
shares
His
unconditional Love with us and
reveals Himself at Christmas, in
the Christ-Child, let us prepare
our minds, hearts and homes to
receive Him; more so when we are
in the last week of Advent. The
great gift of the Christ-Child who
awaits to come into our lives and

the world to dispel the darkness
of sin and sorrow in our souls.
This will happen if we do
not “tie” God’s Hands with a
lukewarm faith and conditional
love of God and our neighbour.

ow does one express mystery?
We frantically celebrate in an
effort to express the unutterable.
But mystery is revealed in
the wordlessness of silence,
acknowledging that we have
not the ability to express God’s
dealings with us. Yet the inspired
word of God finds a sublime way
of telling us in language that is as
obvious as it is startling. “When

all things were in quiet silence
and the night was in the middle
of its course, your almighty word
lept down from heaven”.
And here is the good news of
Christmas. There is a baby among
us with his parents and animal
friends. He is the creator of the
universe and all that is in it. He
tells us that he comes in love and
peace. What more could we ask
for in a troubled world? We have so
much both in fact and in promise
that we can do no more than pray
in gratitude and in silence.
Let us not forget what is truly
ours. The important things in life
comes in silence – the silent night
of Christmas.
