From Fr. Beatty: Here are some nice bits from the Catechism relating to the "Priest, Prophet, and King" series begun last week: "Christ, high priest and unique mediator, has made of the Church 'a kingdom, priests for his God and Father' (Rev 1:6). The whole community of believers is, as such, priestly. The faithful exercise their baptismal priesthood through their participation, each according to his own vocation, in Christ's mission as priest, prophet, and king." -- CCC 1546 And, specifically relating to our communal worship at Mass: "The celebrating assembly [of liturgy] is the community of the baptized who, by regeneration and the anointing of the Holy Spirit, are consecrated to be a spiritual house and a holy priesthood, that through all the works of Christian people they may offer spiritual sacrifices. This "common priesthood" is that of Christ the sole priest, in which all his members participate." -- CCC 1141 We are never the Body of Christ more truly than when we gather at his command, to do what he gave us to do in memory of him. At every Mass, it is Christ who is the true priest, and we each in our own way contribute as members of his body. So the Mass is, in reality, an action of the Son, the "whole Christ," together with all his body the Church, offered to the Father. It is the same offering he made at Calvary: not repeated over and over, but one offering extended and made present through time and space. Think of how many altars around the world from which, this very day, that offering is being made! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Diocese of Belleville is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
