Year 11 Field-Work Trip 12th November 2014
Dear Parent
As part of your son/daughters GCSE Geography course they are required to undertake field work
to complete their studies and gain coursework accreditation. The Geography Department are
organising a trip for all Year 11 students who study Geography to Flatford and Dedham on
Wednesday 12th November 2014. Their focus will be to investigate the management of a rural
area under pressure from visitors. Students will be taking part in an hour long tour with the Head
Ranger and a discussion with Visitors Centre Team Leader. Students are not required to wear
Academy uniform, but must wear appropriate wet weather clothes, including wellingtons or boots
and bring a spare pair of socks.
The pupils will be travelling by coach, departing the Academy at 9.00am; we will depart from
Flatford at 2.30pm and anticipate arriving back at the Academy at approximately 3.30pm,
therefore arrangements will need to be made for collecting your son/daughter at that time.
Visits play an important part in the learning of our students and we understand the financial
demands placed on parents resulting from our school activities, which is why this trip has been
subsidised in part by the Academy. We therefore seek a voluntary contribution of £6.00, however,
should we not receive enough interest or contributions to make this trip financially viable, it will be
cancelled.
On the permission slip it is very important that you let us know of any medical condition or
medication being taken. We will be carrying a first aid kit and at least one member of staff
accompanying the visit is a qualified first aider. Any student who would normally receive a free
school meal will be provided with a packed lunch on that day. This visit is fully covered by the
Academy’s insurance Policy (ZURICH Insurance).
Please sign and return the attached permission form if you wish your child to attend the trip.
Payment by cash or cheque (made payable to Westbourne Academy) should be placed in an
envelope with your child’s name, tutor group and Humanities Department Trip: Flatford and
Dedham written clearly on the front and taken to the Payment Office by; Friday 7th November
2014. Payment is required in full before the trip departs.
If you have any further questions with regard to the trip, please do not hesitate to contact me at
school.
Yours sincerely
Mr A Hailstone
