Honey, you’re early at
home! How was your day?
It was great! They are sending
me abroad to make a
documentary on an ideal place
for vacation.
That’s great, honey! When are you
leaving?
We are leaving next week! Tomorrow, I’m
getting together with my coworkers to
plan our trip and decide where we are
going.
I know it’s going to be a great experience,
my dear. Are you hungry? Let’s have
dinner while you tell me more about your
trip…

Good morning, guys! As you know, we need to make a
documentary on a tourist and historical place for our show.
Can you think about a location?
I think China could be a good option. If
we go to Shanghai, we can visit a lot of
tourist and historical places like the Jade
Buddha Temple, Yuyuan Garden, The
Shanghai Museum, Longhua Temple and
LonghuaPagod. What do you think?
Do we need a visa to go to China?
Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje - SENA. Reservados todos los derechos 2013.
4 /25
Of course. By the way, you need to apply
for the visa at least two weeks before you
enter the country.
It sounds interesting. However, China is a
little expensive. I don’t think we will have
enough money for that trip.
And what about Guatemala? More exactly
Cobán, where there are some Caves
considered to be the path to “Xibalba”,
the underworld for the ancient Mayans.
They are in Central America and they are a
lot cheaper. My sister went there recently
and she says the caves are amazing.

And we don’t need a visa, only a valid
passport.
How long will we stay?
We will stay one week.
How many cameras do we need?
We will use two, perhaps three.
And how about going to El Salvador? We
can visit the Montecristo Cloud Forest,
the biggest and beautiful cloud forest in
Central America, as soon as we finish the
report in Guatemala.

That’s a good idea! What do you think
about it, Debbie?
I can make the reservations tomorrow.
That would be great! I think our meeting
is finished. Have a nice day!
Welcome, dear apprentices! In this section, we are going to analyze
the use of the present progressive for future arrangements. Let’s
continue to learn different aspects about this topic.

7 /25
As you know, we usually use the present
continuous or progressive to talk about
activities that are occurring at the moment.
Example
John is currently working for a TV
news channel.
However, we can also use the present
continuous to talk about future plans or
arrangements.
Example
is travelling to England
at the end of the year.

Remember to use common expressions
that indicate future reference: at the
weekend, next month, in the afternoon,
later, on June the 25th, etc.
Example
• John is having a meeting on Tuesday at 8:00 am.
• We are travelling to Cobán next week.
• The students are taking an exam tomorrow morning.
Remember that there is no difference in
meaning between “going to” and the
present continuous for future plans or
arrangements.
Example
We are travelling to Cobán next week.

Trip budget
it is important to make a trip budget (amount of money allocated in
advance for a specific purpose) to plan the expenditure of resources
needed in a trip. In a trip budget, you need to consider expenses such
as plane tickets, hotel accommodation, transportation, gifts and so
on. Click on the button below to take a look at the budget for our trip

Trip itinerary
When travelling, I advise you to make a trip itinerary (a plan of the
activities you are going to carry out in a trip). In an itinerary, you
allocate enough time for the activities you are going to do, you
have to consider transportation, places you want to visit, free time
activities and the time the trip is going to take. Click on the button
below to take a look at the itinerary for our trip to Cobán.

Packing checklist
Finally, we need to make a packing checklist. To do so, it is important
to consider aspects such as transportation, weather, how long the
trip will be, the kind of clothes you will need, medications, snacks,
electronic devices, toiletries, books, travel guides, dictionaries, maps
and identification documents. Take a look at my packing checklist.
