Sharon Chastain returned to painting only a few years ago, but art and the making of art are woven into
the fabric of her life. She has had several art-related careers. She worked as a commercial artist in
Dallas, a museum educator at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, and a consultant for the Crow
Collection in Dallas. Whenever she returned to the easel she found her painting style had been informed
and transformed by all she had experienced. Sharon has arrived at a time when painting is her primary
focus, and it is proving to be the most challenging and thrilling adventure of all. An avid Master
Gardener, she often turns to the natural world for inspiration.
Sharon earned a B.F.A. in Design at the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Humanities at the
University of Dallas where she focused on art history and literature. In recent years she has studied
painting with Carol Ivey and Beatriz Welch. She has taken plein air workshops with Jill Carver and Ann
Larsen.
