Description: Both of the 10-day workshops will be
conducted at the beautiful Domaine du Haut Baran
near the small medieval town of Puy L’ Eveque. in
the southwestern part of France. Since every
student’s painting needs will vary, Fred’s
instructional approach will take advantage of the
opportunity at hand. Fred will paint along with you
as well as provide individual instruction,
demonstrations and critiques. Students have the
choice of pursuing other artistic endeavors such as
maintaining a sketchbook journal, individual pen and
ink sketches, etc. Fred encourages students to gather
as much information in their sketchbooks so that they
have the option of using the preliminary studies for
Shipyard 23” x 32”
either pursing a painting on location, developing a
painting back at the Haut Baran studio, and/or
creating a painting upon returning home within the
comforts of their own studio. Painting on-location
will be optional and therefore French easels and
portable stools will be available for any interested
student.
Each morning following breakfast, students will
either be transported via van to the designated
painting sites or pursue their plein aire painting on
the grounds of Haut Baran and/or paint in a new fully
equipped art studio. Spouses and travel companions
are always welcome to attend these painting
excursions or they may elect to stay at the Haut
Baran for a little relaxation. Optional sightseeing
opportunities at these painting sites will be made
available to all participants. Both workshops will be
limited to only 8 students (spouses and friends are
welcome).

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Frederick C. Graff is one of the
foremost watercolor instructors
of today. His continuous
growth and development in his
pursuit of watercolor has
enabled him to become a
leading artist and educator in
the field of watercolor painting.
“When an artist understands
the basic principles and
elements of design, the subject
matter becomes unlimited. The selection of my
subject matter is determined by my immediate
response to the subject and its surrounding
environment. It is essential that I go beyond the level
of just recording facts. It is my intent to convey a
spontaneous response in an unrestricted yet semicontrolled manner. This approach to watercolor
painting lends itself to a unique and unpredictable
experience. This state of uncertainty compels me to
further explore the world of watercolor.”
Fred is a “Signature Member” of the American
Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society,
and Transparent Watercolor Society of America
(Master Status). He has been conducting watercolor
workshops for over forty-two years and maintains a
studio and gallery in his hometown of Medina, Ohio.
