Bio for Dr. Murray Clayton Murray Clayton received his B. Math. (Hons.) degree in statistics and pure mathematics from the University of Waterloo in 1979, and earned his PhD in statistics from the University of Minnesota in 1983. He is a Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Statistics and in the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a past chair of the Department of Plant Pathology and a past director of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Biometry Program. At the campus level, he is a former chair of the Tenure Committee for the Biological Sciences, and a former chair of the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate. His research interests include the application of statistics to the agricultural, biological, and environmental sciences, focusing especially on spatial statistics. He is the author of over 170 publications in the statistical and scientific literature and he has mentored 25 MS and PhD graduated students. A substantial portion of Dr. Clayton's weekly activities include collaborating with researchers in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. His teaching includes a course on statistical consulting for graduate students in statistics, and courses directed toward graduate students in the biological sciences. He has twice received major awards for his teaching.
