LAWAC Young Professionals Board Committee Descriptions
Leadership (Chair and Vice Chair)
 Work with committees to develop mission statement, vision, and goals
 Plan and lead monthly board meetings
 Provide updates on all activities/items related to the committee and provide overall
guidance and direction
 Act as liaison between LAWAC General Council and YP, and the LAWAC Board and YP
 Provide support for committee chairs and additional support where needed
 Attend all YP events and serve as representative/spokesperson of the organization
 Represent the YP at LAWAC General Council Board Meetings
 Ensure that all committee members are engaged, challenged, and having fun
 Work closely with LAWAC to integrate YP members into General Council events
Events
 In charge of program development and execution
 Use contacts and the network of the committee, board members and YP members to
identify potential speakers and venues
 Identify needs and requirements for upcoming events and request assistance from other
committee members as necessary
 Coordinate social events for the committee and YP members
 Work closely with the LAWAC to see which speakers can be shared with the YP
Membership
 Lead the effort to recruit new members to the YP. Leverage the LAWAC distribution list
but use outside resources as necessary to reach out
 Provide information and support to prospective new members
 Manage current membership base
 Follow up with non-members who attend events and recruit them to join
 Conduct market research campaigns of current and potential membership as it pertains
to particular interests/needs that the YP should address
 Work closely with the Events Chair to create unique membership outreach initiatives to
increase YP membership
 Create and distribute quarterly newsletter to entire LAWAC YP membership
Publicity
 In charge of outreach and advertising for all upcoming YP events, as well as general YP
publicity
 Manage YP Facebook page and create and manage other social networking options
(Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
 Work closely with Membership Chair to develop promotions
 Work closely with Membership Chair to coordinate outreach to the appropriate
people/places and to identify new members

Development
 In charge of creating new fundraising events and opportunities that support the LAWAC
mission
 Solicit donations and discounts from restaurants and vendors for food, venue space and
beverages
 Attain corporate sponsorships and develop community partnerships with like minded
organizations
 Help to determine YP membership dues and event costs
 Explore ways to subsidize YP events and functions
 Develop ways to raise money for LAWAC initiatives such as the High School Program
 Work closely with the Membership and Events Chairs to develop promotions
Finance
 Prepare an annual program budget, along with an event by event budget
 Work with General Council staff to design financial reports and ensure that reports are
accurate and made available at every monthly board meeting
 Account for all program revenues and expenses that are incurred throughout the term.
 Help to determine YP membership dues and event costs
Secretary
 Provides the YP Board with notices of meeting times and places and requests
contributions of items for the agenda.
 Consults with the leadership team to prepare agendas for the monthly Board meetings.
These agendas, along with any supporting documentation, are distributed by the
Secretary to members in advance of the meetings.
 Immediately after Board meetings the Secretary prepares a summary of their actions
that is distributed to all Board members.
General Council Liaison
 Act as liaison between LAWAC General Council and YP
 Represent the YP program at General Council Events
 Inform YP Board members and members about upcoming General Council programming
 Build and foster relationships with General Council members and board members
 Work closely with LAWAC to integrate YP members into General Council events
