Pea Soup & Pancakes
One of our unique events at Christ the King is slowly sneaking up on
us! Make sure that you won't miss this year's Pea Soup & Pancake
Supper and Service! It will be held on Shrove Tuesday, February
17th, and begins at 6:30 p.m. The cost is minimal ($5 for adults, $3
for children age 5 to 12, and children younger than 5 are free!) and the dinner is fabulous.
Continuing on in a tradition established by our founding Pastor, Carsten Ludder, we will
enjoy pea soup, and pancakes (a classic Shrove Tuesday treat) for a family-style dinner. A
brief service, including communion facilitated by our Order of St. John youth, will follow
the delicious dinner. It is a wonderful family tradition to continue or start this year! Signups begin today, Scottish Sunday, after both services.

Hearing Enhancement for the 10am Service
Don’t forget that Christ the King has easy-to-use, discreet hearing enhancement devices
available for use every Sunday! Simply stop by the sound desk when you arrive to pick up
your set. The technician on duty will provide the simple instructions, and you will be on
your way to a more satisfying worship experience. Those that have used the system report
that it works great!
Greeters needed...sign ups begin Sunday, February 8, in Ludder Hall
Bishop’s Lenten Visitation and Synod Discipleship Event at Christ the King
Save the Date: Saturday, March 21 from 10am to 1:30pm
Each year, Bishop Schaefer offers four identical Lenten mini-retreats in different parts of
the Florida-Bahamas Synod. This year, Christ the King was asked to be the host church for
the southern location, and all are encouraged to attend! Your Lenten journey will be
enhanced by worship, Bishop’s “Table Talk” and a conversation on what it means to be a
disciple. Registration is free (with a voluntary $5 for lunch) and you can sign up either by
going online at http://www.fbsynod.com/events2/lenten-visits or contact the office and we
will assist you.
On The Radar
Yoga meets each Saturday at 9:00am in the Red Room. The cost is $10 per class.
Wednesday Bible Study continues this week in the Red Room at 12:00pm.
No SHOCK tonight. Enjoy the Super Bowl with your friends and family.
Taking the Sermon Home
Today’s theme of authority finds expression in both the Old Testament reading from
Deuteronomy and the gospel text from Mark.
How were the Israelites to receive the word of God as they settled in the Promised
Land?
How does Jesus establish authority in the story from Mark?
What, or who, are the figures of authority in your life? How is their authority
established, and how does it guide your life and the choices you make?
30 Hour Famine
Want to do something to help change the world? Consider participating in the 30 Hour
Famine! All youth 12 and up are invited to help raise funds to end hunger around the world
while enjoying a fun overnight on February 26 and 27. Talk to Callie if you are interested in
participating.
Project Hope-Ixchiguan Thanks You!
Last Sunday’s Shucos fundraiser was a huge success due to to the hard work of our SHOCK
teens, other volunteers, and our amazingly generous congregation. The money collected from
the fundraiser has been combined with other free will donations to help schoolchildren in
Guatemala. In total, our church raised an incredible $1,243.70 last month and donations are
still being accepted. If you would like to learn more about Project Hope-Ixchiguan and/or
make a donation talk to Hank Fandrei or Amy Whitley.
