We are now receiving applications for workshop demonstrators for the Skills
Towards Employment Program (STEP) in the Melbourne School of Engineering, at
the University of Melbourne.
STEP workshops will be covering verbal and written communications and will
likely be run between March 3 and June 1, most likely in the weeks of March 10 –
April 4 and April 14 – May 2.
Hours can be negotiated, but will be typically between 6-12 hours a week for the weeks when workshops are
running, and will be paid at the standard casual academic activity rate of $41.84. Marking opportunities are
likely to be available late in the semester.
Requirements
Applicants do not need to be engineers, or have an engineering background.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. You must have excellent communication skills.
2. You must have good teamwork skills.
3. You must be able to work independently.
4. You must have an undergraduate degree (not necessarily an engineering degree).
5. You must have University level teaching experience.
The following criteria are highly desirable in applicants:
1. Some form of formal teaching training.
2. Training in communications.
3. Prior experience working with engineers or the Melbourne School of Engineering.
4. A reference from a Melbourne University academic staff member. (This doesn't have to be
written, but the staff member must have agreed to be used as your reference).
5. Strong academic performance.
Please note that Masters of Engineering by course work students are NOT eligible for this position.
