The train has just left Tokyo station. A: Excuse me. I’m afraid that’s my seat. I’m 6A, the window seat. B: 6A? Oh, you’re right. I’m 6B. I’m sorry. A: That’s all right. I wouldn’t mind switching our seats on a rainy day. But this is a perfect day for enjoying the wonderful view of Mt. Fuji. B: Right. I’ve seen Mt. Fuji hundreds of times, but I never get tired of seeing it. A: Neither do I. It’s one great symbol of Japan. By the way, I’m Chris. Nice to meet you. B: I’m Etsuko. Nice to meet you, too. A: It’s great to be sitting next to someone who speaks good English. Have you lived abroad? B: Yeah. After graduating from high school here in Japan, I studied at a university in the US. Those four years there were so hard----reading books, writing papers….I could hardly go to see a movie on weekends. A: You’re a hard-worker, Etsuko. Well, that explains your American accent. Can you tell from my accent where I come from? B: Well, judging from your pronunciation, I would say you’re from Australia. A: Wow. Bingo! B: I have some Australian friends, and I’m used to hearing Australian English. A: I see. I’m from Melbourne. Many Japanese visit Sydney, but Melbourne is more beautiful. B: I’ve never been to Melbourne myself either. So what’s a man from Melbourne doing here in Japan? A: I first came here as an English teacher. I taught at a high school in Yokohama for five years. Then I got a job at a computer software company in Tokyo. I’ve been working there for three years, but I’m applying to a company in Nagoya. It’s a similar, computer-related company but much bigger. It’s a global company, and I’m going there for a job interview today. B: I wish you good luck. それでは、もう一度読みます。……。これでリスニングテストを終わります。
