Melbourne Festival and Arts Centre Melbourne present CARROUSEL DES MOUTONS Dirque & Fien (Belgium) Wordless and filled with wonder, Carrousel des Moutons is a spellbinding mix of circus, acrobatics, illusion and piano music from world-‐renowned Belgian performance duo Dirk Van Boxelaere and Fien Van Herwegen, who return to Melbourne on the heels of their 2012 hit children’s show Oh Suivant! A man settles down to sleep atop a grand piano, and we follow him into a strange world of dreams – a mysterious place where the laws of gravity fall away, the mundane becomes magical and pianos take flight. Enchanting, mischievous and infused with the crackling energy of circus theatre, Carrousel des Moutons conjures a colourful world of marvels that will leave audiences gasping in delight. Dirk Van Boxeleare began street performing in 1993. After graduating from the circus school ESAC and the ‘Ecole national de cirque’ in Montreal, Canada he began performing internationally, combining street theatre and technical circus art. When French Festival milieu discovered his work with a fellow street performer Matt Ledding, they changed their nomad life for organised Festival tours all over the world from Slovenia to Romania to Brazil and more. Whilst recovering from a broken leg and unable to perform, Dirk asked Fien Van Herwegen, a pianist from Antwerp for some private piano lessons.
