This half-day seminar aims to expose participants to potential applications of Fiber Reinforced Polymer
(FRP) composites in new construction in Hong Kong. Experiences gained in recent Hong Kong projects will
be shared following a general introduction to international developments in the area.
The seminar is sponsored by Dextra Pacific Limited, a manufacturer of fiber reinforcement and steel products
for the construction industry, and Fibrpro International Limited, an applicator of FRP composites in
infrastructure projects in Hong Kong. Their products and project details will be exhibited near the seminar
venue.

About the Speakers
Prof. Jin-Guang Teng (PolyU)
Prof. Jin-Guang Teng is a Chair Professor of Structural Engineering and the Director of the Research Institute
for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research interests
include the structural use of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in construction and thin-walled
structures. His research has led to over 170 SCI journal papers, and has impacted significantly on relevant
design codes/guidelines in China, Australia, Europe and the United States. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong
Academy of Engineering Sciences as well as the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and served as the
founding President of the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC) from 2003 to 2006. He has
received a number of prestigious awards for his research contributions, including the Natural Science Award
from the State Council of China, Distinguished Young Scholar Award from the Natural Science Foundation of
China, the IIFC Medal from the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC), and the State-of-the-Art of
Civil Engineering Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Mr. Qing-Ming Zhong (Dextra)
Mr. Zhong is the Sales Engineering Manager at Dextra Building Products Guangdong. With over 15 years of
experience in material testing and research and development, he provides the technical interface between
Dextra and its clients; develops potential technical specifications and investigates new applications and
improvements to products. He is a voting member of JGJ107 (Chinese Standard) committee on reinforcement
splice.
Prof. Jian-Hua Yin (PolyU)
Professor Yin received a BEng degree in 1983 in Chinese Mainland, an MSc degree from Institute of Rock and
Soil Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1984, and a PhD from The University of Manitoba,
Canada in 1990. He joined The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1995 as an Assistant Professor. He was
promoted to an Associate Professor position in 1999, to a Professor position in 2002, and recently to the position
of Chair Professor of Soil Mechanics in 2014. His research interests include (i) testing study of properties and
behaviour of soils, (ii) elastic visco-plastic modeling, (iii) soft soil improvement, (iv) soil nails and slope analysis,
(v) development and applications of fiber optical sensors, (vi) soil-structure interface, and (vii) development of
advanced/special lab test apparatus. Currently, Professor Yin serves as a Vice-President of International
Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics (IACMAG), Co-Editor of International
Journal of Geomechanics, Co-Editor of Geomechanics and Geoengineering, and Associate Editor of Canadian
Geotechnical Journal. He has received the honours of the prestigious “JOHN BOOKER Medal” in 2008,
“Chandra S. Desai Excellence Award” in 2011 from IACMAG, and delivering the high-status 2011 “Huang Wenxi
Lecture” in Chinese Mainland.
Dr Hon-Ting Wong (Fibrpro)
Dr Wong is a Civil and Structural Engineer with about 15 years of experience in research and development,
engineering consultancy and contracting, with a strong focus on FRP composites in construction. He obtained
his Bachelor’s degree from South China University of Technology and his PhD from The Hong Kong Polytechnic
University. Before co-founding Fibrpro International Ltd., he worked with Aslan Pacific Ltd. as the Product
Manager on the FRP reinforcement technology. Dr Wong specializes in the use of FRP composite materials for
civil and building works. He was a committee member and author for the national standard GB 50608 – 2010,
“Technical code for infrastructure application of FRP composites” (中華人民共和國國家標準—纖維增強複合材料
建設工程應用技術規範); participated in the past in fib TG9.3 deliberations; and was an audient member of ACI
Committee 440, Fiber Reinforced Polymer Reinforcement; He is also a member of the International Institute for
FRP in Construction (IIFC) since 2007. Dr. Wong received the D.R. Harting Award from the Society for
Experimental Mechanics of U.S. in 2005.
