NAMABAR of peace for FATA and South Punjab
Zartaj Gul Wazir Ahmad Zai was born in FR Bannu, Daryuba Agency. Her father was
the first Engineer from the Baiek Khel Wazir area. She got her basic education in FR
Bannu, Tank, Miranshah and Dera Ismail Khan. Even during her studies she worked as
a volunteer in Shaukat Khanam hospital Lahore, helping Pashtoon patients who had
problems with language barriers, helping run the Musafir Khana for far away patients
with Zakat funds. This was her source of inspiration towards joining Pakistan Tehreek e
Insaaf, and she later got married to Akhwand Humayun Raza in D.G.Khan, who was
already working as a political activist in Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf.
She decided to participate actively In Politics after the Martyrdom of her beloved
younger brother in a bomb blast at Moon Market, Lahore. She became the first North
Waziristan Women's wing President in Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf. After that she was
selected as a youth member of Strategy committee Punjab where she worked on the
policy aspect of the party, as well as strategizing for FATA areas, using her local
knowledge of the area .In intra party elections she was then elected as Senior Vice
President of the Youth wing of PTI. After mobilizing Youth and women's wing in Dera
Ghazi Khan and North Waziristan in FATA, she was given the ticket of NA 172 in youth
category in General Election 2013. She was the first female and youth member who got
the highest number votes (39,000) in South Punjab against feudals and seasoned
politicians. She continues to work for the betterment of her people in FATA and South
Punjab, and is the only female politician to have a huge standing in the tribal area of
North Waziristan in FATA, facing immense odds in a male patriarchic society. However,
she has dedicated her life to betterment of her native area, and shines as a beacon of
hope for empowerment of her tribal people, youth and particularly women in the area.
