Ysgol Iau Johnstown TAC (Team Around The Child) Policy LAC Co-ordinator: Mrs Nia Roberts LAC Governor: Mrs Jo Goodchild (new to position Jan 2014) Date of Last Review: April 2011 Date to be Reviewed: April 2014 Team Around the Child (TAC) What is the Team Around the Child (TAC)? The Team Around the Child in Wrexham is a way of organising extra help for children (or young people of any age) who have a number of additional needs, but whose difficulties are not serious enough to involve Safeguarding and Support (children’s Social Services). Wrexham TAC Statement “The TAC is a popular and successful way of getting children and young people the extra help they need. It means that difficulties can often be addressed at an early stage, and not left to get so serious that more specialist and intrusive services have to be called in. It is better for children, better for families and better for the communities we live in if children and young people get support when they need it most”. Who might be eligible for TAC intervention? The TAC can co-ordinate intervention when a child has input from more than two services e.g. education, health, housing etc., but does not have a Social Worker. The TAC referral may come from any of these services. # The Six Steps of the TAC The TAC has six steps and the child and parent are invited to be involved at each stage. The steps are as follows: Step 1:Someone who works with the child (e.g. teacher, health visitor, nursery nurse etc.) will talk with the child and parent about their concerns. If they agree, the worker will also talk to other people who work with the child. Step 2:Together, they will fill in a single assessment called the ‘Common Assessment’ (CAF) on the child, so that people working with them have a clear picture of what the issues are. Step 3:A TAC Meeting is held involving the child and parent, and those people who work with the child. These people form the TAC Team. An Action Plan is drawn up and recorded to see what can be done to arrange some extra help. Step 4:Extra help is provided and the child and parent can chat regularly to the Lead Professional (the Chair of the TAC Team), about how things are going. The Lead Professional is the person identified to be the main point of contact for the family and the agencies involved. Step 5:The child and parent are invited to attend regular review meetings of the TAC Team to discuss how things are going. Step 6:When the extra help is no longer needed, the last TAC review is held and the process finishes.
