13/Oct./2015 Display Innovation CHINA 2015 / Beijing Summit Super Retardation Film “COSMOSHINE SRF® ” ~ Application to LCD Polarizer ~ YASUSHI SASAKI TOYOBO Co.,LTD. Industrial Films Development Department 1. Feature of SRF SRF is a new PET film which eliminated iridescence (Rainbow-mura) derived from birefringence. Conventional PET COSMOSHINE SRF® 2. Application to LCD Polarizer The reliability of LCD strongly depends on the property of substrate film which is the top surface material of LCD-panel. 3. Property of SRF 3-1. Typical property Higher retardation than conventional PET ⇒ Rainbow free. Lower moisture permeability than TAC ⇒ High reliability 4. Reliability of Polarizing Plates Reliability Test Result of SRF based POL and TAC based POL (85℃,85%RH, 500Hrs) 200Hrs 100Hrs SRF TAC SRF TAC SRF/PVA/TAC TAC/PVA/TAC SRF/PVA/TAC TAC/PVA/TAC 300Hrs 500Hrs SRF TAC SRF/PVA/TAC TAC/PVA/TAC SRF SRF/PVA/TAC TAC TAC/PVA/TAC SRF based plate kept the polarizability even after 500hrs ! 5. Reliability of LCD Light leakage (Egg-mura) and Cell bending test result 6. Conclusion Polyester(PET) is an excellent material, but PET has not been regarded as an optical material. This is due to its optical anisotropy, which cause rainbow-mura. In order to overcome this problem, we took the approach of significantly increasing the optical anisotropy. COSMOSHINE SRF® is a new PET film which eliminated Rainbow-mura. Applying SRF to the substrate of polarizing plate brings remarkable improvement of the reliability of LCD.
