Crossing the threshold of 10 years of its journey, Icfai University Tripura is once again
set to begin another happening and aspiring academic year 2014-2015. As we look back at our
journey from 2004, through 2007, till date, we realize that much has been done, and much more
needs to be done. Just as the past brings in experience, the future unfolds greater challenges for all
of us. To commemorate the 10 long years of successful operation, we decide to bring out the
‘newsletter’ which will reflect all major events of the university and the achievements of its
stakeholders during academic year 2013-2014. To say it short and sweet, the newsletter is a
replica of the indomitable spirit of Icfai University Tripura. So, enjoy reading!

Major events from the University chronicle:
IBC Seminar: A seminar on “Disaster Management”; “E
Earthquake Resistant Structures” & “B
Building
Materials” was organized by Indian Buildings Congress, Tripura Centre in association with ICFAI
University, Tripura on 9th August, 2013 (Friday) in Icfai Campus. A research paper was presented by
Prof. Debdulal Tripura, Asst Prof. Civil Engg. Department NIT Agartala on the topic “Building
material”.
B.Tech students participated in various
techno-literary competitions organized by
the Institute of Engineers, Tripura
Chapter, on the occasion of 46th Engineers’
Day on 15th September 2013. IUT
students bagged prizes in Debate
Competition (1st & 3rd) and Extempore
Competition (3rd Prize).
Students of B.Tech 4th year (Civil Engineering) went to Lafarge Concrete for an ‘IIndustrial visit’
on 24th September 2013.

November 2013. Mr.Samarjit
Bhaumik, Secretary, Sports and
Youth Affairs was the chief guest
on valedictory ceremony on 27th
November 2013. Mr. Timir Chada,
Ranji Trophy player from Tripura
was felicitated by the University
on this occasion.
On 16th January, 2014, Govt. of India ,
Ministry
of
MSME,
Agartala
in
association with IUT, organized a talk
show. Mr. Ajay Bandopadhaya, DirectorMSME-DI (Govt. of India) delivered
lecture
on
“Industrial
Motivation
Campaign”. Shri Rajesh Kumar (Deputy
Director IMT), MSME DI, delivered talk
on “Role & Schemes of MSME-DI” &
Shri Sandeep Singha, AGM(Marketing)
& Factory Incharge, delivered a talk on
“Marketing Products & Services”.
The University organized

Cultural and Talent fest

January 19th to 21st 2014.
The event was inaugurated
by His Excellency Shri.
Devanand Konwar
the
Governor of Tripura & Mr.
Bhanulal Saha, the Higher
Education Minister. In this
fest, students have taken
part in various techno
cultural programs.
A ‘Management Development Program’ on ‘Financial Management’ was conducted during 20-24
January 2014(5 days) organized by MSME-DI, Govt. of India in collaboration with Icfai
University Tripura. Budding entrepreneurs from the state, selected students and faculty members
attended the program and got an exposure to brilliant business generation ideas.

‘Research Methodology’ on 24 January 2014.
An ‘Art of living’ camp was organized for students during 24th to 31st January, 2014. In this
session 13 nos. of students participated.
The ‘Marketing Department’ of the university
organized a quiz competition on 7th February,
2014. Students of five H.S schools of Agartala
participated in that competition. In this
competition two students from R.K.V.M
School got the 1st & 2nd prize and a student
from Mohanpur School got the 3rd prize.
The ‘Student Working Committee’ of
the University organized a ‘Blood
donation camp’ on 14th February
2014 in the university campus. The
event was inaugurated by Swami
Hitokamana nanda Maharaj of
Ramkrishna Mission. A total of 40
donors including students, staffs,
and sub-staff have donated blood on
that day.
A ‘Health camp’ was conducted for hostel students on 9 th March, 2014.
Five ‘students club’ was inaugurated on 14th
March, 2014 by Mr. Chayan Dhar, Senior
Director, National Information Centre. The
clubs are Music Club, Photography, Drama
Club and UDDA Club.
A talk fest was organized by the university on
18th March, 2014 in which Prof. Biplab Laho
Choudhury, from Viswabharati University
delivered lecture on ‘Man Management’.
On 18th and 19th March, students of 3rd year
EC, CS and ME along with few faculty
members visited OTPC, Palatana as a study
tour. ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC)
Ltd is sponsored by Oil and Natural Gas
Corporation (ONGC), Infrastructure Leasing
and Financial Services Limited (IL&FS) and
Government
of
Tripura
(GoT)
for
implementation of 726.6 MW CCGT thermal
power project at Palatana in Tripura.
A national level lecture cum

the people.
On 28th March 2014, a Lecture
session was organized by IUT (FST)
on Transportation Engineering. Er.

India, delivered lecture on geometric
& structural part of highway roads.
The Faculty of Law, IUT organized
a guest lecture on “Know Your
Laws”, on 4th of April, 2014 in the

Authority, Agartala delivered a
lecture on the same. In his lecture he
discussed about various rights and
particularly on Right to Information
Act.
On 21st April 2014, a Lecture
session on “Software Application in
Engineering” organized by The
Institution of Engineers(India),
Tripura State Centre jointly with
ICFAI University, Tripura was
conducted at the university campus.

Misra,
Retd.
Professor,
Visva-Bharati University, West Bengal
spoke on "Understanding Education and
Role of University therein, with special
reference to Shandilya University."
The University conducted a 10 day long
‘Summer Camp’ from 30 June to 11 July 2014
in coordination with Tripura Sports Council.
14 students from St. Andre School, Lefunga,
attended the camp and took training on
communication
skill
development
and
computer application, imparted by the faculty
members. In addition, Tripura Sports Council
deputed couple of coaches to provide basic
training in table-tennis and football to the
students. Finally the students were handed
over a certificate of participation from the
university, and a letter of appreciation from
the coaches.
Two eminent Faculty Members, Mr. Priyanshu Rana Borthakur and
Mrs. Swarnali Nath from Faculty of Science & Technology have been awarded with Ph.D
Degree recently.
Mr. Priyanshu Rana Borthakur, whose domain is Physics, has completed his study on ‘Fluorescence
Studies of Juice and Skin of Lemon (Citus × limon), seeds of the Bitter gourd (Momordica charantia),
Pointed gourd ( Trichosanthes dioica), Spiny gourd (Momordica dioica) and pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo).’
under the guidance of Dr. Anurup Gohain Barua of Gauhati University, Guwahati. He has been
awarded with the degree on 02 June 2014. Congratulations Dr. Priyanshu Rana Borthakur!
Mrs. Swarnali Nath , a faculty of Chemistry, has done her research on ‘Phytochemical and biological
evaluation of certain medicinal plants of Tripura State.’ under the supervision of Prof. S.B. Paul and
Dr. Biplab De of Assam University, Silchar. She has been awarded with the degree. on 08 July 2014.

In addition, the first Ph.D scholars of Icfai University Tripura- Mr. Aviral Tiwari and
Mr. Raveesh Kutty have completed their research and submitted their thesis successfully.
Mr. Aviral Tiwari completed his st udy ‘On the mechanics of
the relationship between energy consumption, CO2 emissions,
openness and economic growth in the selected Asian countries’
under the supervision of Dr. M. Aruna (Associate Professor,
Department of Management, IFHE (IBS) Hyderabad.
Mr. Raveesh Kutty completed his research on ‘Debt Capital in
Indian Corporate Sector: A Study with Reference to Selected
Public Limited Companies.’ under the guidance of Dr. Kiran
Sankar Chakraborty, Regional Director, Indira Gandhi National
Open University, Kolkata Regional Centre
Both the scholars had started their research on January, 2nd, 2011. They completed their study
within a span of three and half years and finally submitted their thesis on May, 30, 2014.The
University feels proud of both the scholars and look forward to award the prestigious degree. soon.

Forthcoming events
chronicle:
The University begins its new academic session 2014-2015 on 4th August 2014 with new
zeal and enthusiasm.
The academic session 2014-2015 proudly witnesses the launch of part-time Ph.D Programme
for professionals, in the areas of Engineering and Management.
The new session also commences with 3 years full-time LLB Programme under the Faculty of
Law. The University is highly optimistic that the effulgence of knowledge will spread far
and wide.
The University in collaboration with IL&FS has decided to offer vocational training courses
to the students in order to meet the needs of the complex and challenging job market. In
relation, the University is going to sign an agreement with the concern to start-off soon in
this session.
The University is all set to organize a national seminar during 28 and 29 August 2014, at its
campus. The seminar is based on the topic ‘Perspectives of Education from India with Special
Reference to Sree Sree Thakur Anukulchandra’, where 11 distinguished professionals from
the field of academics and civil services will be present as resource persons. The two day
program is expected to be a gala event and a memorable one for the university.
The University is going to publish the university magazine’ Anweshana’ for the first time,
with a view to showcase student splendor. The magazine is a humble reflection of the skill,
talent, creativity and passion of the students and staff of the university and will truly
contribute in brand building.

during last academic year 2013-2014. The forthcoming issues of the ‘Newsletter’ will be circulated
quarterly and for that, your contributions and feedback is essential. We look forward to enrich it
further by bringing in more up to date information of all our achievements- may it be personal or
professional. We can boost ourselves saying- Kudos to all of us for crossing the milestone of 10 years
of operation showing academic excellence…! In the same fashion, let us march ahead with conviction
and dedication!
