April 2014 AUCKLAND
TRAINING
Kia Ora All
This has been another busy month with plenty of events and meetings happening within
Auckland. There are 5 Associations up and running . Liz Tere Tai (Fostering Kids Board
Member) has meet with two Associations to trial the discussion groups, we have had great
feedback so far. We are hoping she can establish some dates over the next few weeks to
run further discussion groups.
The ICARE2 programme went ahead last month. The insight from the children was amazing
and they generally where encouraged to be able to help their parents in the fostering experience. One parent’s feedback was that it was important to see the grief and loss their children go through as well. Another one will be run in term 3.

GREETINGS
We know the year is going by at an alarming pace when we are already winding our clocks back this weekend!
We have had a really busy March with Regional Conferences being held in Dunedin, Christchurch and Masterton.

We still need 5 young people, based in Auckland, for this amazing event! Please forward registration forms to national
office ASAP. We will take registrations from Auckland until we have filled these places (registration form attached)
2015 Diary
We need your children’s pictures!
Calling all children that can pick up a pen. On the rainy days these school holiday’s there is something
very constructive your children can be doing… helping the Fostering Kids diary to be beautiful! Their
pictures can be in colour but they will be printed in black and white. Ideally they will be on A4 paper. All children who
submit a drawing will get a small gift. Please send your drawings to Fostering Kids, PO Box 30188, Lower Hutt 5040

Critical Support — Did you know ?
Hardly any caregivers that are coming through the Critical Support service have a current care plan for the child in
their care.
It is important for a child in care to have a care plan so everyone involved is clear as to how the child’s future is being
planned.
For transitional caregivers the goal in the child’s plan should state:
Goals.
Return Home, Placed with Whanau, Placed with CYFS caregiver, (Permanent/Home for Life) until they reach independence. These goals are time framed depending on the age of the child.
They should also state how, who, where and when contact with whanau and siblings will take place.
It is not the caregiver’s responsibility to arrange contact or supervise it.
