Hi all
WINTER WELLNESS AND WISHES
We are heading into Winter when lots of us might get
coughs and colds, or our kids may start to get more sick
than usual. We understand that winter can be harder to go
to shifts—but remember it is hard for our hospitals too who
have staff off sick and maybe residents with coughs/colds/
winter ailments.
Please make sure you keep healthy and well and let us
know your availabilities—don’t forget you can do this
through our new web log in automatically (just ask the girls
on 0800 314 314).
TRAINING and MANDATORY CPR/FIRST AID
Please remember that all our team out working need to
have an up to date CPR/First Aid certificate. If you do not
have one then you must do this please as soon as possible.
Call us to find out if we can help. We may have to stop offering shifts to people without this soon!
BEING ALL GOOD!
Thanks heaps to all of you who go out and work for us week
after week. If you do 5 shifts a week or just 1 it is awesome
and you are the ‘heart’ of our business. Please remember
to make sure your availability is up to date and to change it
if you are not available or you need a break. Don’t forget
we are all responsible (us and you) for ensuring you are
healthy and rested to work well and safely! Please make
sure you don’t over work and we really want you to take 2
days off together every fortnight!!!
We do care and we want to look after you!

Cultural Safety
Culture refers to the beliefs and practices common to any particular group of people.
The effective nursing practice of a person or family/whanau from another culture, and is determined by that person or family. Culture includes, but is not restricted to, age or generation; gender; sexual orientation; occupation and socio-economic status; ethnic origin or migrant
experience; religious or spiritual beliefs; and disability.
The nurse delivering the nursing care will have undertaken a process of
reflection on their own cultural identity and will recognize the impact
their personal culture has on their professional practice.
Unsafe cultural practice comprises any action which diminishes, demeans or disempowers the cultural identity and well-being of an individual.
Kawa whakaruruhau
Cultural safety within the Maori context, is an inherent component of
Maori health and nursing, especially in its contribution to the achievement of positive health
outcomes.
From Nursing Council of New Zealand (2011), Guidelines
for Cultural Safety, the Treaty of Waitangi and Maori
Health in Nursing Education and Practice.

FRIENDLY REMINDERS
Updating availabilities—please call us every Monday morning to
update your availability for the week. Saves us all a lot of time.
Pulling out of shifts— Pull Outs are not acceptable. If you have any
doubts about whether you will be able to make it to a shift. Let us
know at the time of the booking. Its better for us that you turn down
a shift, than to book you in only for you to pull out later on.
Uniform/Name Badges—It is vital that you bring your name badge
with you to every shift, even if you are a regular at the facility. Tidy
uniform is expected at all times.
Timesheet approval—Your timesheet MUST be signed by a
Registered Nurse or a Manager. Caregivers are not eligible to sign for
timesheets and we will not be able to process your timesheet.
Lateness—if you are running late to a shift please call us straight
away so that we can let the client know.
If you have any problems or concerns, please call Medcall and we will
be here to listen and to help :)
