Have you always wanted to create your
own handmade book?
Would you like to create your own
wonder-filled pages?
Then Dyed and Gone to Spain is the workshop for you!
Liz Constable is an adventurous warm hearted tutor who
will happily guide you through all the stages from
chatting about your handmade book to holding it in your
hands, never wanting to let it go!
Let Liz show you how you can create incredible and
effective pages for your books in the most simplest of
ways. It doesn’t matter if you don’t draw or paint or even
journal. This class is suitable for beginners through to
experienced book artists, bookbinders, journallers and
other artists.
A gifted teacher, Liz teases out of each student (even the
most timid ones) – a sense of adventure, playfulness
sometimes not experienced since childhood. Liz gets a
huge thrill out of watching students produce delicious
books they couldn’t believe were possible.
Nurture and explore your own artistic talents and enjoy
your own creative adventure at Cortijo Entre Molinos,
the farmhouse between the mills, in a tranquil valley
surrounded by olive groves. There’s time to absorb the
relaxing atmosphere, to savour Mediterranean cuisine
during leisurely lunches in the courtyard, tapas by
candlelight and long convivial dinners with new friends.
There’s lots of time too for afternoon dips in the pool, for
one-to-one instruction, country walks and plenty of
laughter.
exploring the palace complex, including the beautiful
Patio of the Lions, newly completed after 9 years
restoration work. We’ll discover the charms of the
Summer palaces and Generalife, the architect’s gardens,
with it’s fountains, scented flowers and herbs, patios and
pools.
Over the course of this playful week, we:
•
Construct the cover for the books
•
Cut the paper using different tools to get a variety
of finished edges
•
Use the colorful dyes and all manner of exciting
materials with the paper
•
Experiment with ideas, concepts, collage, papers,
found objects
•
Go on journaling adventures – in and out of the
studio
•
Enjoy using equipment such as fantastic stencils,
an amazing range of rubber stamps and lots more.
Your finished book will be bound using the straight stitch
method.
We also welcome partners who don’t wish to make
books and offer them a Spanish Experience, with light
hearted Spanish Conversation with a tutor for beginners
or those wishing to brush up their linguistic skills, a
couple of hands on Cooking sessions in the kitchen, two
cooking demos, an olive oil tasting and a sherry tasting
as well as participation in the excursions.
Hosts Chef Mike Powell and his wife Hilary are
passionate about Spanish culture and cuisine. Mike
creates healthy and sumptuous Mediterranean meals
with quality local fresh produce including fruits and
vegetables grown a stone’s throw from the cortijo.
One excursion by private bus takes us to a nearby pueblo
blanco (white village) Iznajar and to a local artisan’s
workshop where you may see a demonstration making
marquetry boxes, games and trays carrying on a
tradition of craftsmanship originating in the Moorish
tradition from the 8th Century.
Our other excursion is to the UNESCO World Heritage
site of the Alhambra in Granada. We’ll spend time
Join us in a shared small group atmosphere where there
is emphasis on individual attention and instruction and
time aplenty for book artists at all levels to expand their
creative skills.
