Cell culture provides a good model system for studying basic cell biology and biochemistry, interactions between disease – causing agents and cells and the effects of drugs on cells. Since both normal cells and cancer cells can be grown in culture, the basic differences between them can also be closely studied. Cultured cancer cells also serve as a test system to determine suitable drugs and methods for cancer treatment. Cell based assays have become increase important for the pharmaceutical industry, not only just for cytotoxicity testing but also for high throughput screening of compounds that may have potential use as drugs. In this workshop, we will introduce, demonstrate and provide theoretical concepts of human cell culture and their applications to clinical and biological research. Common methods and equipment used in laboratories will be presented and participants will have an opportunity to work with mammalian cells. Scientists, Research Officers, Science Officers and students. (This workshop is designed for those new to mammalian cell culture or needing a refresher course on the basics. ) *TOPICS THAT WILL COVER Lectures: 1. SPEAKER 1. Prof. Dr. Rozita Rosli,PhD (Medical Genetics) 2. Dr. Norshariza Nordin,PhD (Molecular Medicine & StemCell) 3. Dr. Ahmad Faizal Abdull Razis,PhD (Molecular Toxicology) 4.
