Nature Hill PTO Meeting – May 12, 2014 Attendees: Clarinda Lollar, Mike O’Connor, Carol Hunter, Ann Anderson, Chris Cass, Sue Panella, Deanna Marincic, Heather Sobczak, Melissa Minkley, Nicol Britten, Kim Ciriacks. Called to Order: 6:30 pm Principals Report: OASD Parent Satisfaction Survey is available online through the OSAD website or at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/OASD_Parent_2014 Secretary’s Report: Create an email list for the incoming 5th Grade Parent Orientation on May 15, 2014. This is a way to communicate with parents on ways to stay involved as their child(ren) become more independent in middle school, and help during PTO sponsored events (ie. Dances, book fairs, and special projects enhancing NHI). Nicol Britten will be representing the NHI PTO. Treasurer’s Report: The spring Book Fair deposit was $4200, but we owe Scholastic $4000. Current balance is $18,181.25. Communications (formerly Technology): None. Literacy Report: Clarinda will lead the NHI Book Swap. Students/Families can drop off age appropriate books at NHI from now till May 30, 2014. After the books are sorted, students may select from the donated books. 8th Graders will start selecting books on June 4, 2014, moving down the grades. The number of book(s) a student can select will be established once the final count of donated books is complete. Any unselected books will be donated to a local charity or the elementary schools. Community Building Report: Box Tops were submitted, and Piggly-­‐Wiggly will cut the NHI PTO a check in July. Thank you to all the families that patronized Chili’s in April. The NHI PTO will be receiving a check for $260. The Fun Run has already reached 20% of its goal with $1000 in sponsorship. In addition, Piggly-­‐Wiggly will be donating bags and water, the Racing Sausages from the Milwaukee Brewers will be making an appearance, and thank you to Principal O’Connor for the email blasts and texts supporting the Fun Run. Fun Run Timeline of events: • Pledges due May 19, 2014 • Continue to gather sponsorship, including route markers for $50 with inspirational quotes. • Sort out prizes the week before the race. • Race day begins at 11:15 with the 7th grade, then every half hour for each grade. Considering a cookout during the Fun Run. President’s Report: Teacher Appreciation Week was fantastic, and very much appreciated by the NHI Staff. Nicol Britten will be representing the NHI PTO during the incoming 5th Grade Parents Orientation. This led to a review of this years PTO activities. Thank you to all the parents who helped out during NHI PTO sponsored events. These would not be possible without you giving your time and skills. Here are some quick facts about the NHI PTO events and the people to make these a success: • NHI has about 800 students. • Approximately 380 volunteers are needed for all the NHI PTO sponsored events (2 Dances, 2 Book Fairs, Teacher Appreciation Week, Fun Run, Box Tops and Piggly Wiggly Receipts). • This year we had over129 people sign-­‐up to help at various events, with many people volunteering for multiple events.
