Dear Roosevelt Families,
Winter is here! I hope that the snow
provided some joyous fun for your family! The
children also enjoy being able to play outside
during the winter months. It is a joy to watch
the creative play that naturally occurs when
children come in contact with great packing
snow. Their imaginations expand as they work
together to construct forts, castles, and even
miniature cities within our playground boundaries. Not only does this winter play spark creative thought it also provides our children with
essential cardio and muscular exercise. We do
send children out to play as long as the air temperature (including wind chill) does not fall below
0 degrees. We may also keep children inside if
there is excessive ice or water in the play area
as well. Please make sure that your child comes
to school prepared for recess outside each day,
this includes snow boots, snow pants, coats,
hats, and mittens. An extra pair of socks are
always handy as well.
This year we are also developing a plan for purchase of new playground equipment that is specifically designed for our younger students.
These playground structures are designed to
encourage 2-5 year old children to become independent, inquisitive learners. They are scaled
for growing youngsters with imaginative play
systems that offer age-appropriate challenges
that help them build physical strength, flexibility, balance, and dexterity. The cost for this
type of play system runs around $28,000 $34.000. Our PTO has graciously offered to
help fund this! Thank you PTO!
Respectfully yours,
Marcia A. Bowman
