ANOTHER ACTION-PACKED YEAR
CELEBRATION OF LEARNING 2014
THE LARGEST EVER
September! Time to get back to work, and refocus
our energy on important goals. Of course, at school,
this means taking care of essential tasks that ensure the safety and security of all the members of
our community.
On September 9th, 2014, the PEC community invited
209 students to celebrate their success. Although
some were unable to attend, those who joined teachers and family members were certainly proud of their
achievements.
We will soon be having a fire drill and lockdown
practice, so this means remembering guide lines for
these safety exercise. When you hear the alarm,
head right outside into the parking lot through the
assigned entrance. In case of a real emergency,
time is a critical factor. Don’t stop at your locker or
anywhere else. Leaving the building immediately
can be the one factor that helps you escape a dangerous situation.
The first graduates of the Plumbing and Heating Program at the Beurling Annex were present for the
event. These members of the program’s graduating
class showed their enthusiasm by cheering and applauding each classmate as he approached the podium, and students warmly embraced their teachers
upon collecting their hard-earned diplomas.

The new learning center soon be opening its doors
to students and teachers within the coming weeks.
Under the supervision of teacher Nick Roussos,
telecommunications students have been lending a
helping hand with some of the preparation. In line
with the collaborative design, users will be able to
interact with each other around large tables which
are conducive for discussions, mentoring and team
work. Other technologies available through the
center include SmartTables, video editing workstation, and large displays used for two-way remote
communication and viewing. The center will also
be an excellent source for rich resources to help
with career planning.
Awards were given to those who had shown high
levels of achievement, and to students who had overcome adversity in their quest for certification.
After the ceremony, family and friends shared a light
lunch with graduates and teachers.

MANUFACTURING TRADE
SHOW
It’s that time of year again! Every October, the
friendly stylists at the Gordon Robertson Beauty
Academy apply their skills to raise money for the
Cancer Research. Volunteers have their head
shaved and make a donation to the Cancer Society.
Long hair is even more precious, since it is used to
make wigs for patients who lose their own hair as a
result of treatment.
On May 13th, Electricity students and teachers
visited the M.M.T.S. at Place Bonaventure. This
trade show brings together firms working in the
industrial sector of the field, an important career
Iconnection for our students. From machinery to
robotics, companies involved in the manufacturing
sector exhibited state of the art machinery and
equipment, and our students were there to widen
their employment horizons.
Our students enthusiastically traded business
cards with potential employers, and came away
with a much broader perspective on what awaits
them as they approach graduation.

Another important feature of your safety is dependent on our ability to contact you in case of school
closure for any reason. If you have moved, or you
have a new telephone number or email, please
remember to advise the office. Doing so may save
you a trip to school in case of closure.
October 10th- Pedagogical day
Our first graduates from the The exact date has yet to be determined, but we
will definitely keep you posted (most likely end of
October). Plan a-HEAD!!

HONE SKILLS
Electricity students worked on integrating accuracy and speed into a multi-unit installation. As
they complete the final modules in the program,
students tackle much more complex, multi-unit
installations that ressemble the type of projects
they will encounter in the field.
Because this project gives students a feel for
authentic working conditions, they were also
expected to complete their work within a particular time frame.

TELECOMMUNICATION
PROJECT
Telecom group TE130423 9evening) practised
« Taps » for cable drops in the PEC pole park this
summer. As you can see, they experienced the
procedures and challenges of tasks common to
many technicians, who start their illustrious careers
installing cable to residential customers. Lucky for
them, the weather cooperated!
As usual, a picture is worth a thousand words.
The effort of concentration is evident in these
photos, taken of our students at work.

In the real world of work, trades people work
closely with many others to successfully complete projects. At PEC, the students in our
programs may very well meet classmates on
job sites, as electrical work, communications
networks and computer networks are integrated into construction projects.
Under the watchful eye of teachers Jocelyn
Crochetiere and Pierre Ostiguy, some of our
students from both programs took part in an
enrichment project that gave them experience
in just this aspect of their work.
Six students who had already completed their
basic course requirements had the opportunity
to install the equipment needed for providing
light in the telephony lab.. Electricity students
installed relays, electrical boxes, cables, light
sockets, connections and wires. Telecommunication students installed controls. Together, all
students experienced the satisfaction of seeing
their skills come together to produce results.
