Volunteer Week
This week, from the 12th to the 18th of May, is
National Volunteer Week. This is a great opportunity
to recognise that the spirit of volunteering is alive
and well at Lucknow Primary School. When I begin to
reflect on the many volunteers that we have
contributing across so many programs I can see that
these people are the ones that make a large school
such as ours feel like a community. They give up
their time to help our students without any
expectations.

I am certain that I will miss some but I would like to
recognise the great work of the Parents and Friends
Group; School Councillors; Special Friends; the
parents and friends who cut up the fruit on Fridays;
who wash the second hand uniforms; who wash and
change the sheets in the first aid room; Les Curtis
who takes woodwork groups and Judy Ramsdell who
organises our vegie garden; Jean in the Library.
Parents, family and friends who listen to reading,
help out in other ways in class or on a camp or
excursion; or driving for meals on wheels; Bridge
Club members who are teaching the game to our
students and others who help out on special
occasions such as Reconciliation Day. Teachers also
give up their own time for many of our school
activities and students also show their commitment
to students through programs such as Student
2Student reading program, Meals on Wheels and
helping out at the Day Care centre.
If you are one of these people mentioned above (or
someone that I have forgotten) – On behalf of
Lucknow Primary School I would like to thank you!
Student Banking.
End Of Term 2. 2.20 p.m. dismissal.
My personal challenge to all students and parents is
to thank someone who you see volunteering at
Lucknow in the next week or two.
Thank-you
To the students who have brought in ring pulls.
These are sent to Melbourne to get melted down for
medical supplies.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN week has come and gone very smoothly. I
congratulate all of the students in year 3 and 5 (and
their peers in years 4 and 6) for the positive attitude
to which they approached the assessments.
Principal’s Report
Pupil Free Day
Please remember that tomorrow Friday the 16th of
May is a Pupil Free day. Lucknow Primary School will
be hosting other local schools in the area as we work
together with Professor Mike Askew in deepening our
knowledge of mathematical thinking. Some Year 6
students were involved in a demonstration lesson
this morning that will be analysed and explained in
detail tomorrow. This is a great opportunity for our
staff to learn together with staff from other local
schools and also have the input of one of the world’s
most highly regarded experts on this field.
If you have a child in year 3 or 5, later in the year
you will receive your child’s personal NAPLAN report.
The report will describe your child’s particular skills in
Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and
Numeracy. The report will also show how your child
performed in relation to national minimum
standards.
