Bidz for Kidz Needs Your Help!
The primary fundraiser for our school is rapidly approaching—Bidz for Kidz — on April 26. The committee needs
your assistance in securing in-kind gifts to be auctioned at the event, which promises to be a fun-filled evening with
this year’s James Bond theme. Here are some ways you can help:
 Donate items to the large plastic bins in the lobby of the school, which will be wrapped and sold to the highest
bidder.
 Gift certificates—have some lying around the house you are not going to use? Know a business owner? Frequent a business and can ask?
 Vacation home—have a vacation home to donate a getaway?
 In-kind gifts form your business or anyone you would like to solicit?
All proceeds will go to KFA, a 501(c)3 organization.
Contact Bidz Chairman, Mellissa Morton at [email protected].

Our annual fund raiser Bidz for
Kidz will be held this spring April
26th at Rivercrest Country Club.
The theme is James Bond and
there will be lots of fun. KFA
families fill the baskets you see
around the school with themeoriented items that are auctioned
off during Bidz. This event takes
many months of preparation and
lots of KFA volunteers.
Bidz for Kidz has made up the
difference between tuition and all
the wonderful things we have
done here for years. Each and
every volunteer leaves behind a
difference that lasts a lifetime.
You can be sure that all of your
efforts bring smiles to children
and teachers every day.
Bidz for Kidz replenishes the wonderful dress-up clothing worn by
eighty children a day, the musical
instruments, games, puzzles, books,
CD’s, outdoor equipment, parent
education workshops and more.
The finance committee works diligently to decide how to use these
funds wisely and to determine
unexpected expenses for which we
should prepare. The teachers help
us determine classroom needs and
wishes.
Last year’s event provided a hand
washing sink for the Bridge Kindergarten and one for the outdoor
area, an additional gate to the

porches, funding for two educational speakers during in-service and
our upcoming March parent workshop speaker, Dr. Debbie Rhea.
Bidz funds also sent four teachers
to the NAEYC conference, supplemented the KFA budget and replenished the items mentioned above.
We are extremely grateful for all
you do for KFA!
Baby Elephants Join the Dost Class!
Happy day! The Dost class is very happy and thankful to announce that we are now the proud adoptive family of two
baby elephants, Belle and Bowie, thanks to one of our teacher secret pals! Asian elephants are considered endangered, but thanks to the generous gift of a parent, we are able to be a part of protecting and raising these babies for
one year.
We have received a lovely plush elephant to join our class mascot, Ellie, photos of Belle and Bowie, an official certificate of adoption, and a monthly supply of the Fort Worth Zoo publication for one year. We are in love already! According to Connor Barclay, the elephants are simply too big to live at Kinderplatz, thus the reason they must stay at
the zoo. Georgia Erwin and Charlie Sanders agree that "Belle and Bowie go to ‘elephant school’ and learn ‘elephant
things’ and we go to school and learn children things." According to the Fort Worth Zoo, Belle and Bowie are
"learning to use their trunks to pick up things, clear objects out of the way, break bamboo, play with enrichment
objects, as well as eat and drink." You should definitely go by and visit our friends at the Fort Worth Zoo!
Brooklyn Gaines said it best, "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! They are so cute, cute, cute!" We are grateful for
this unique opportunity!

The Power of Sleep
Getting a child to nap or to bed at a decent hour can be a challenge. Here are some interesting factoids from a Time
magazine article on the need for sleep, "Please, Please, Go to Sleep”:




Studies show that 60% of a child's growth hormone is secreted during sleep.
Getting too little sleep appears to have a role in obesity. One Israeli study found the effect in babies as young as
6 months.
Australian children sleep almost a full hour per day more than American kids, who sleep less than kids in nearly
all other countries.
The National Sleep Foundation recommends 14 to 15 hours of sleep for babies, 12 to 14 for toddlers, 11 to 13
for preschoolers, and 10 to 11 for elementary schoolers.
6:00-8:00 pm
You will not want to miss
this important workshop.
It will give you insights
into your child’s temperament as well as you own.
What you learn will give
you important information and lessen power
struggles. You will walk
away with lists of great
breakfast and lunch ideas,
and what you learn about
sensory issues will shed
some light about power
struggles related to food
and clothing.

The Kinderplatz of Fine Arts, Inc. (KFA) is a private, nonprofit preschool designed for children
two through five years. The curriculum emphasizes music, art, movement and dramatics to enrich
the school readiness experiences and skills which each child should master. As a fine arts preschool, KFA provides a creative approach to learning, using the child’s natural expressions in
speech, singing and movement, combined with playing specially designed instruments, to achieve
mastery of basic skills and concepts and improve hand-eye coordination. The school is open to all
regardless of religious preference or ethnic origin.

A big thank you to Haydee Needham and her committee. After
working all day they come to KFA in the evening to make sure
every KFA student has art hanging in the school.
A big thank you to the parent volunteers who are busily getting
the Biz for Kidz pottery painted by each child! These pieces
will be in the silent auction.
A big thank you to Chancy Pullen and all the parents who
stocked the teacher pantry with protein snacks and pick me up energizing treats!
