Letter from the Principal
Dear Parents:
I cannot believe that it is almost November! So many fun and exciting
things have been happening here at Big Rock. Last Wednesday students
enjoyed the NED Show and learned how important it is to Never give up,
Encourage others, and Do your best every day of the year. We also had
our first Box Top Book Giveaway where every student was able to choose
a book for free. Third grade students also received a dictionary from our
local Rotary Club. Lisa Greenfelder, one of the Rotary members, did a
fantastic job sharing the role of the Rotary Club with students too. Our
teaching and support staff held a breast cancer awareness luncheon.
They were able to raise over $300. This money will be given to local
women who are currently fighting breast cancer. On November 6,
students in grades first through fourth will travel to the Middle School
to enjoy a portion of the Wizard of Oz play being performed by The
Chesaning Association of Performing Arts. We have around 90 students
from Big Rock involved in this production so I encourage all of you to
attend. Performance dates are November 6, 7, and 8 at 7:00 p.m., and on
November 9 at 3:00 p.m. in the Middle School auditorium. Our first
marking period will end on November 7, and our Parent Teacher
Conferences will take place on November 13.
Congratulations to our preschool teacher Megan Chludil and her teaching
team Jennifer Hoornstra and Victoria Belanger for scoring 4.6 out of 5
on their Program Quality Assessment (PQA)! The Early Childhood
Specialist had nothing but great things to say about this team. Our Early
Childhood Specialist is from Midland and has been all over the county
scoring other preschool rooms. She said our preschool is the highest
quality she has seen by far!
Happy Halloween!

Lost and Found
Half Day Schedule
Big Rock is desperately in need of
smaller girls’ pants, especially sizes
6 or 8. If you have any pants that
your children have outgrown,
please consider donating them to
the Big Rock office.
The pile is growing! Please be
sure to check for any items your
child may be missing.
Periodically throughout the year,
excess items are donated to local
charities because we do not have
room to store unclaimed clothing.
To help reduce lost items, please
write your child’s name in
hoodies, boots, coats, snowpants,
etc.
Due to Parent-Teacher Conferences on
Thursday, November 13th, Big Rock will
have a half day of school.
Stretchy pants of any size for
either boys or girls are are always
greatly appreciated!
Headlice
Parents, PLEASE take the
time to read the Parent
Education materials we
are sending home
regarding headlice and
familiarize yourself with
Big Rock’s headlice policy
outlined in the 2014-15
handbook. It is VERY
important that you check
your child regularly –
weekly is recommended –
and treat as needed. With
the help of your being
vigilant parents, this
nuisance can be kept
under control. If you do
find any stage of lice on
your child, please let us
know as we are required
to report our numbers to
the county every week.
Dismissal will be at 12:02. Please
make after-school arrangements for
your children for that day.
Students will have a snack before
leaving school, but they will NOT eat
lunch at school on half days.
Food Drive
During the early part of November, Big Rock will be having a food
drive. As we have in previous years, we will be working to collect
enough food for entire holiday meals for local families. Look for
details to come home from your child’s teacher soon!
Parent – Teacher Conferences
Conferences will take place on November 13th from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m.
You should have received a scheduled time from your child’s teacher. If
you have not, please contact the teacher. 4th grade conferences will
NOT have scheduled times.
