Tears filled your eyes while entering the new world;
Shy, reserved, inquisitive and nervous
Here came the sweet little heritan bird.
Here fun and friendship nurtured your being;
You learnt from every little thing,
Teachers showered their affection and protected you throughout,
Concerned when you were quiet and annoyed when you were loud.
You are now a bird proud of your wings;
We too grew with you dear queen and kings.
This love will bind us and in our hearts you will stay.
The time has come to chase your dreams and make your way.
So rejoice the heritan bird...just fly away;
Explore the horizons...Just fly way.
Soon my school bag, my first book,
my first crayon and my first pencil
gave wings to my dreams that
arose into newer forms and shades.
Then cartoons, fairy tales and fables,
lives of great men and women umpteen
unfolded enduring virtues to thwart
vices in my life in the wake of the light.
Each year passing-by adds onto my dreams,
for the vast amazing world has so much to offer my football, my guitar, my passion for history
stay as dreams deep in the eye of the mind.

like waking angels stir determination and
devotion strong enough to pursue

NATIONAL LEVEL COMPETITIONS
ASSET: Assessment of Scholastic Skills through Educational Testing (ASSET) conducted by Educational Initiatives is a
scientifically designed, skill-based assessment test that measures SKILLS and CONCEPTS that have been learnt by the
students. Keeping the objective of exposing the students to National level skill test, we introduced the students of Classes IV,
VI & VII to ASSET. Our Class VII students performed exceedingly well and 23 students got selected for the prestigious Duke TIP
exam that is the Level II exam for ASSET.

DUKE TIP: In partnership with Duke TIP, Educational Initiatives aims at identifying and supporting academically gifted youth.
Eligibility for Duke TIP is an Honour-Only the top 5% of all the ASSET taking 7th standard students in India a qualify for the
talent search. Out of the 23 students who participated, Aryan Aneja, Agrim Gupta and Vardhan Bajaj qualified for the National
level Summer Studies programme.

Exploring Sans Frontiers
Nothing happens by chance. Each event is designed and predisposed to take place.Your heart was meant to be beating right
now, for you were meant to read about our children's trip to Europe. Therefore, the entreaties of the readers' souls have
beckoned the writer to translate the intangible into words.
swirling, spinning and tossing around in an astronaut's chair; and the most exhilarating of them all...to be able to design
their own rockets. Each child designed a rocket in the teacher-instructors' guidance and launched them with élan. All and
sundry rejoiced the experience!
The Earth is a marvellous place to have landed on! And Europe is a paradise on Earth.The architectural extravagance of the
monuments there has to be seen to be believed. A group of twenty six children accompanied by 3 teachers from the school
were fortunate to have witnessed that cultural delight across three countries, namely France, Belgium and Switzerland. Our
children departed from Delhi on the 9th of June, 2014 for Paris. Pleasant showers welcomed them at the Charles de Gaulle
Airport, followed by which a benign old gentleman joined them as their bus driver for the 8-day tour. His wit and wisdom fed
into children's ardent desire for getting to know Europe. Soon he became children's very own friend, philosopher and guide.
Driving children through the highways, bridges, and a labyrinth of tunnels and by-lanes across the three countries, he had
many a story and anecdotes to share.
While in Brussels, they also had the opportunity to visit Atomium, and a castle in the sleepy town of Bouillon. As children
stood by the ramparts of the medieval Bouillon Castle, a feeling of timelessness crept in.
Paris brought with itself a mammoth enthusiasm for life with Disneyland beckoning them all for an exhilarating day together.
It also offered children a celestial river cruise on the Seine with the mesmerising music of violins playing onboard.This river
cruise during the evening twilight hours coupled with a visual treat of the picture-perfect 'bridge of locks' was a divine gift
for the group. Children had a surreal view of the city on board their ship, and spotted the Louvre, Notre Dame and the
immortal spirit of the city of Paris. Imagine leaving the City of Lights without having a look at Mona Lisa herself... Of course,
that sounds unfathomable! It was a privilege to be able to walk through the galleries of the magnificent Louvre museum.
Later, when children walked across the pious floor at the Notre Dame, every single heart skipped a beat in its serene aura.
Children spent a few quiet moments photographing inside the cathedral, and stepped out in a state of quietude. This
tranquillity may have endeavoured to touch children's inner recesses we suspect, for they ventured for souvenir shopping
later with immense focus and discipline.

Likewise, Belgium was a bountiful experience in itself. Along with dainties and chocolates, it offered children a stay at the
world famous Eurospace Centre of Brussels.The three days spent in the Eurospace Centre, engaged in space activities and
conversations with the teacher-instructors there can most resolutely be christened an enriching experience. They had the
equipment, gadgets, and the setting to enable children to experience moon-walking; climbing up a wall in zero gravity;
The final stop of children's regaling journey across the three countries was at Geneva, in Switzerland. Standing outside the
United Nations office at Geneva was like stepping foot inside the newpapers. If only the children could have had the
opportunity to tread inside...Sigh! But let this not stir the reader's fascination, for we are about to reach the marvellous
Flower Clock right across the Lake of Geneva. Numerals composed of blooming flowers on a tiny hillock were meticulously
spaced out to make way for the long ticking hands of the clock. And if this has brought a smile to your face, brace yourself, for
you have still not read about the Carnelli Chocolate factory. Children's countenance manifested a remarkable gleam when
the bus trundled to a halt beside the chocolate factory and the chocolate aroma wafted through their senses. Each nugget of
chocolate tasted and bought from there was a piece of innovation.
The marvel of ingenious work was witnessed at CERN. Children had the good fortune and privilege to get to know about the
Higgs Boson.The science world was abuzz in July 2012 about an announcement from the European Organization for Nuclear
Research, also known as CERN, concerning the Higgs Boson - informally called the "god particle". The intriguing possibility
that the Higgs boson is responsible for all the mass in the universe rather captured the children's imagination. The 27 km
long, large Hydron Collidors which span across the borders of France and Switzerland, 100m below the ground, recreate
within them the big bang collisions experimentally, which is believed to have led to the inception of the Universe billions of
years ago. Children were awestruck as they observed those actual scientific set-ups at the CERN, and walked back with
celestial humility.The guided tour at CERN was a life-changing educative experience.
Teary eyed children flew back from Geneva to Delhi.The design of the trip must necessarily have had a providential hand, for
new relationships blossomed on that journey...beautiful ones!

A SCHOLAR'S SOJOURN TO
SINGAPORE
Dear Diary
Today was the most rewarding day of my life. I am travelling back from Singapore, where I represented my school at the
World Scholar's Cup. I am seated in the cozy seat in the aero plane tucked in my blanket and I realize that it isn't a dream (I
pinched myself hard to check that). That feeling of competing with 250 schools all over the world or rather meeting 2400
young exuberant learners representing different cultures on one platform is so overpowering and gratifying.
I feel nostalgic reminiscing of the day from where it started. Our school announced participation inThe Scholar's Cup a few
months ago, and to my surprise students were waiting for this opportunity as we Heritans had created history in the
previous years by competing successfully in the Delhi round, the global round at Dubai and finally atYale.
Anyways, we at Heritage believe in taking challenges in our stride, so we were screened through a rigorous procedure and
finally students were selected for the regional round. We exhibited our talents and skills and it enabled us to bring back
laurels to our school. This wouldn't have been possible if we had not been polished for the same in our formative years at
school just like a pearl that shines within the confines of an oyster despite the fact that it faces the harsh, slapping waters of
the ocean.
The preparation for the same required intensive training in the school wherein the teachers worked laboriously along with
the students trying to untangle and explore the topic 'The World Within'. What was worth mentioning is that the discussions
helped us to delve deeper into various concepts and look into divergent perspectives.The debating sessions helped us to put
across our views with a lot of conviction. The training sessions taught us the importance of team work. In a way, it was like
being prepared for life.
Finally, the much awaited day arrived when we landed on the land of the Merilon. We were zipped from the Changi airport to
our hotel.The Scavenger's Hunt, an icebreaking activity conducted at the famous Sentosa Island gave us the opportunity to

mingle with scholars from other countries. Despite representing various nations all over the world, speaking different
languages, we all eventually gelled up so well achieving the crazy targets set by our respective team leaders.
This spirit of team work was carried forward in the next event i.e. collaborative writing wherein we exhibited our mettle in
writing skills individually and later by giving reflective feedback on the essays written by each one of us in our team.
Furthermore, the debating rounds were a great learning experience as they fostered the skills of active listening, note
taking, research skills, analytical skills and problem solving.
Yet another challenging round wasThe Scholar's Bowl where the main attraction was the use of flickers which was swift and
exciting. The venue for the same was the horse shoe shaped Star Performing Art Centre which is the best place one could
wish for such an event as it offered an excellent audio visual experience.The much awaited event The Scholar's Ball at Zouk
provided an opportunity to students to dress up in their best for the dance.
In addition to this, the city tour enthralled us all as we took a guided tram ride and witnessed seven geographical zones of the
world and learnt facts about animals and their habitats in the night safari. We also had the privilege of experiencing the
breathtaking panoramic view on the world's largest giant observation wheel, the Singapore Flyer.Yet another architectural
marvel was the Universal Studio, a unique world class movie theme park where each zone offered a distinctive architecture,
landscape and entertainment. We also visited one of the Buddhist temples and observed closely the statue of Buddha
placed on an altar.
The visit to Singapore has left us with beautiful memories which we will cherish in our life. It has also motivated us to gear up
forTheTournament of Champions to be held atYale University, USA .Looking forward to another enriching experience atYale!

ASSET - THE PUN
HEALING THE CYBER WORLD

Stepping out of the confines of the family, we experience the joy of sharing and being together at school.The journey towards
adolescence comprises socializing, learning to build trust, confiding in friends and keeping each other's inconsequential yet
valuable secrets. Growing together, laughing, fighting and again patching up bring happiness that gives a meaning to life.
Now, with the studies becoming more and more technical; more and more abstract information is being given, and various
forms of knowledge are being imposed on the very young learners. Cyberspace and blogosphere are the new worlds that on
the one hand have sufficient material to cobble together an assignment, and on the other hand they help us stay connected
with friends and relations strengthening our bond. It makes our childhood experience so special, nurturing on a greater degree
of exploration and liberty.
The other side of the coin presents grim concerns about the possibility of plagiarism, security threat, accessing and distributing
unwanted information. So, the need of the hour is to minimize the cyber risks by equipping everyone with cyber hazards and
safety measures.

"Oh, no! Why?"
What started as a routine, boring school day, quickly turned into something which three of us will remember for the rest of our
lives! The entire grade 7 was told that they'll have to attempt a test but we had no idea what it was for. At that time, it looked
like the school was being fussy, but the next couple of days would prove us wrong.
Cyber Congress came into being as an answer to
discern pleasure from meaning. As acquiescence,
parent to stand by and listen patiently, to probe
wrong and ensure safety that prevails all through
learners heal and make a safer cyber space for
foster a deeper sense of meaning in life and to
the Cyber Congress assumes the role of a hidden
into the hidden recesses of their mind, to right the
their adolescence. In effect, Cyber Congress helps
themselves, making this world a better place.
The ASSET test, which we thought was our teachers' way of punishing us, turned out to be a qualifying exam for the DUKE TIP
(Talent Identification Programme), for which the three of us were selected from our school and invited to OP Jindal University at
Sonepat, where many different schools from in and outside Delhi participated.
While there were no classes on day 1, we met lots of new people from all over the country who would be with us in this 3 week
Summer Study Programme. Our classes were to commence on the next day and we were excited to meet the teachers who
would be taking us on this wonderful journey of learning and fun! The three of us had a difficult choice of ten interesting
courses of which two of us chose "Cryptography" and one of us chose "Architecture and Engineering".
"Did you know all internet messaging services use secret codes to protect your privacy? Have you ever wondered how cool it
must be to share a secret language with your friend?" These were some of the many things we learnt during our three week
long Duke TIP intervention by the professors who had previously taught at Duke University. The professors used some really
interesting props to demonstrate boring concepts that kept the learning atmosphere light and peppy.
The residential counsellors, who were young college students on vacations from their tiresome courses, were responsible for
all the fun and games.They would plan different events like treasure hunts, sports day and group dances for us.The best thing
about the Summer Study Programme was the fact that we met so many amazing people from various schools and made some
long lasting friendships.
But, all was not good.The food, we felt could be better and the fact that it managed to poison (not so seriously, only minor food
poisoning) one of us only added fuel to the fire.
Nevertheless the experience we took from our three week journey is one of most memorable one for which we must thank our
teachers and parents, our room counsellors for turning this otherwise academic intervention into a fun social adventure. Lastly,
a token of appreciation to the DukeTIP instructors for wonderful 3 weeks of learning!

X factor teaches you an important lesson

DREAMS GALORE
Dreams pass into the reality of action. From the actions stems the dream again, and this interdependence
produces the highest form of living. Anais Nin
Dreams are the language that soul speaks. Those who listen to it are constantly stirred to pursue their dreams until they
transform into reality. A reality, the realization of which extends the spectrum of one's dreams like the colours in a rainbow,
each one so distinct, yet in a perfect amalgamation to create the marvel. We Heritans are provided a set of values, i.e.
Dharmic Principles to tread towards the realization of our dreams as we partake in various excursions, activities and
workshops which create hands-on experience situations, making it an experiential learning indeed.
Water Water Everywhere, Not a Drop to Drink
Attentiveness, as visible among the students of grade VIII and IX working on the Earthian Project initiated by WIPRO, was
bound to have a catalytic effect in spreading awareness about environmental issues among masses - the very objective of
the project. They showcased their concern for the water crisis and brainstormed to find creative solutions to tackle serious
environmental depletion. Surveys on water availability, its purity, visit to purification plant and an audit of water used in the
school campus were the high points for the learners
The entire journey from the school to Bengaluru - where the award ceremony was held - can be surely celebrated as a
journey of enlightenment and empowerment, the fruit of their attentiveness.
Unveiling the Past
Authenticity always pays. It became so evident when the Harappan Valley Civilization became existent for the sixth grade
students during their visit to the Harrapan gallery at National Museum presenting a wide collection of exhibits including a
rich collection of artefacts found from various Harappan sites.
Similarly, yet another enchanting experience brought back the Mughal era for the learners of Medieval Era in the exhibition
“Mughals” at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Art. Rare artefacts such as horse manuals, a recipe book from the kitchen
of the emperor Shah Jahan, pages from Dara Shikoh's personal diary, maps made as part of their battle plans, several
miniature paintings on a range of issues and pages from literary classics of that era helped them in reconstructing the
history.
A visit to Tughlaqabad Fort revealed the beauty of the Sultanate period to the students of grade seven. Once inside they
stood to see the ruins lying all around - the remains of common houses built for people to live, the fallen walls, gateways and
broken down archways. The tomb of Ghyas-ud-din Tughlaq, the Indo-Islamic style of architecture, the ramparts built by
Muhammad bin around the tomb and a glimpse of Adilabad Fort through the slits in the wall - all seemed to transport the
learners to the Sultanate Period.

The authenticity these historical objects and monuments provided left an authentic experience.
MUN Training
Freedom to learn and grow enabled our learners to widen their horizon, chisel their communication skills and boost their
self-confidence in a two-day workshop, convened by a veteran MUMer. It equipped them with the understanding of the
purpose and proceedings of a MUN. On the one hand they were acquainted with the rules of procedure, the role of a
moderator and the process to request the committee to perform a particular action; on the other hand they were trained to
answer questions, debate on resolutions and amendments, make speeches, convince, bring forward new solutions and
solve a world conflict with their resolution. Finally, a hands-on experience prepared them better for the upcoming
conferences.
Visit to Auchandi Farm
Inclusion, as a humane policy struck right at the heart of our learners of grade eight when they visited Auchandi farm
exploring the various aspects of food, health and economy. An interaction with the farmers there acquainted them with the
various types of seeds, wages of agricultural labourers, crops grown, machines used, government support provided to the
farmers and their contribution to the Indian economy.The trip certainly helped them empathize with the farmers and realize
the pressing need to improve their condition. Such acknowledgement can blossom only from inclusion.
Just a Gesture on Gender
Respect for the other gender was intensely emphasized by the Commotion Group, dedicated to the cause of character
development, value education and life-skills among adolescents, in the workshop for XI graders on gender issues. A
discussion on certain professions being associated with a particular gender and advertisements exploiting genders brought
them face to face with the gender injustice. The learners mused and verbalized their views through various forums such as
theatre, debate and media presentations.
They learned to think through wider concerns and reflect on the need to change one's mindset to resolve gender issues.
Respect for the other gender is, in fact, directly proportional to one's own.
Friendly Matches
Excellence could be seen into play when beating the heat and the forgetting the race for the Ace position, friendly matches
came as a whiff of a cool breeze for the neighbouring schools invited this year. Ever since their inception, friendly matches
have become so unique to the Heritan culture.
The football ground, hockey field and volleyball court buzzed with life and action as the participating teams displayed their
mettle with a pure motto of living every moment for the sheer joy of being there and presenting their best. So remarkable to
the sportsmanship!
Each small step and every little effort pave a way to make the learners' dream a reality...
