JOB PURPOSE
The role of the WBL Functional Skills Co-ordinator is to ensure
that all learners enrolled on Apprenticeship frameworks
successfully achieve their Functional Skills qualifications within
the planned timescale. The post plays a key role in the
Learners’ Functional Skills programme from enrolment through
to certification. The main focus of the role is to plan learning,
tutor/teach learners, carryout assessments, and track and
report progress.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for overall Delivery of Functional Skills for a group of Apprentices and
Work Based Learning learner
2. Teach an agreed number of hours in classroom or 1:1 settings to meet the WBL
departments demand
3. Develop plans to deliver the Functional Skills qualification in accordance to the
awarding body requirements
4. Review, assess and feedback to learners on their progress to ensure they achieve the
Functional Skills qualifications
5. Respond to requests for internal quality assurance activities promptly and fully
contribute to the quality assurance process by attending WBL standardisation, team
meetings and 1:1s as required and report issues of concern to the WBL Manager and
WBL Co-ordinators.
6. Liaise with Functional Skills Course Tutors and WBL Manager to enrol and induct new
learners both on and off-site as required, in accordance with college
procedures. This includes confirmation of agreed Functional Skills start and end dates.
7. Support learners with bespoke exam activities to ensure learners achieve the
qualification in a timely manner to suit learner requirements.
8. Operate in accordance with the College’s Quality policies and procedures to ensure
all learners’ Functional Skills records are accurately completed and maintained
throughout the programme to certification.
9. Support the co-ordination of the WBL Induction events, attending on the day to
support the completion of Induction paperwork face to face with learners and
complete required diagnostic tests to ascertain abilities and learning requirements.
10. To promote Functional Skills and Apprenticeship awareness within the department,
with employers and any other stake-holders.
11. Contribute to College planning activities Self-Assessment Report (SAR) , Sector Plans
and Quality Improvement Plans (QIPS), in conjunction with the WBL Co-ordinators and
WBL Manager.
12. Attending Team Meetings and regular 1:1 meetings with the WBL Manager
13. Observe and implement Newbury College procedures
14. Comply with all safeguarding responsibilities in line with College procedures.
15. Participate in the annual performance management process
16. To undertake training and development as required and agreed by the IV and by the
college in order to ensure compliance with legislative requirements such as
Safeguarding, Health & Safety and Equality and Diversity.
17. To carry out any other duties that are reasonable and within the level of responsibility
for the post as determined by the Work Based Learning Manager.
